Hey all, we hope summer is going well out there. On the podcast feed, we’re re-running a few of our favorite Revolutionary-era episodes from the archives1 as we give ourselves a little break and gear up for the second half of the year. This newsletter is to get you excited about what’s in store — in particular one collaboration on the horizon.
Starting in August, our “50 Weeks That Shaped America” series will resume with new episodes2, and then in September, we’ll be collaborating with the Charles F. Kettering Foundation, a nonpartisan research foundation dedicated to advancing inclusive democracy by fostering citizen engagement, promoting government accountability, and countering authoritarianism.
We’re calling it “Democracy, Under Construction”
This collaboration is part of Kettering’s America 250 initiative and This Day’s year-long America 250 coverage. Kettering and This Day will be coproducing a series of episodes that examines the moments when our country has moved closer to becoming a more inclusive democracy. Among other stories, we’ll be looking at:
The Bill of Rights
Seneca Falls
Southern Realignment in the mid-20th Century
The Citizens United ruling
and lots more. Each episode will feature a special guest, many of whom are Kettering Fellows.
And each Sunday in September, I’ll be chatting with Alex Lovit, host of Kettering’s podcast “The Context” about bigger questions of expanding democracy, inclusive politics, and more.
The collaboration will culminate with a live event in Washington, DC, this October 19th. Mark your calendars, more on that very soon.
For now, subscribe to “The Context” podcast and sign up for the Kettering’s biweekly newsletter, News & Notes, to stay up-to-date on their latest news.
We are starting to record these next week, we have some incredible conversations lined up, I can’t wait for you to hear them!
Special thanks to everyone at Kettering who has been helping us shape this up.
More soon.
