It’s no secret that I’m incredibly proud to be Colombian, and I spend much of my time reading and writing about the impact my culture has had in various fields. An impact that has been overlooked for far too long, simply because when the world thinks of culture and beauty, it strictly gravitates toward the clichéd figures from Europe and the US (Hi, colonial capitalism). One of the goals of Things You Missed is to highlight moments and people who made a significant impact on my life, and how these subjects have shaped the way I work, how I see the world, and why I believe they should become pillars of inspiration and research for all Latin American creatives of my generation.

I’d like to start this post with a question: Are you a Latin American creative working in fashion who has used Jackie Kennedy as the “muse” or inspiration for any of your projects?

I know the answer is yes. And I say this because I can't tell you how many times, over the past fifteen years, I’ve received mood boards from fashion clients that look like this:
