What if you played Game Boy Tetris, but every single pixel of the screen was also playing Tetris?

Fractetris is a port of the original Game Boy Tetris (reimplemented in C from the community disassemblies — the real gravity tables, the real RNG with its weird reroll quirk, DAS timings and all) compiled to WebAssembly. You play it normally with the keyboard. But the screen you’re looking at is rendered by a WebGL shader where each of the 23,040 pixels (160×144) is a live micro-Tetris game played by a dumb AI, simulated entirely on the GPU.

The micro-games are not a fake animation: they run the ported rules in GLSL10×18 boards, the original 21-level gravity table, the original piece RNG, line clears with the authentic blink cadence, top-outs followed by the game-over curtain, then they restart and keep going forever. Each one plays in grayscale using the real tileset graphics, tinted by the color its pixel has in the main game — so from far away all those thousands of boards average back into the image of the game you’re playing.

Play it here. Zoom with the mouse wheel (or =/-), drag to pan, Home resets the view. Arrows move, Z/X rotate, Enter starts. Zoom into any pixel and you’ll find someone small and grey, quietly stacking pieces on your behalf.
