Research due to be released tomorrow show the average Bible study spends on average 36% of time on snacks and marvelling at a cake or pudding someone has made, and 27% on “Catching Up” and then 19% of the time thinking about an introductory question before blazing through the study, much of which is free-association around the text compared to time actually looking at the Bible and what it actually says.
The data also reveals how every study contains at least one contribution which begins, “I’m not sure if this is relevant…”
Further research shows how the time of prayer breaks down:
Researchers have ideas for follow-up investigation, including the suggestion that people spend more time discussing the Bible after the study has ended, rather than during, especially in hallways and on doorsteps without the Bible actually open.
There are also plans to study how the “Brief Introductory Question” is usually neither. One case study has already been found to show that the “Brief Introductory Question” on a study on the book of Philemon was longer than the entire book of Philemon.
