If there’s one thing life will teach you over and over. It’s this: life is more result-oriented than effort-oriented. You could do everything you want in life but if you don’t succeed and get to the goal you want, your effort becomes useless. In fact, you look like someone that put no effort.
I have known this for a long time, I have seen it in the man down the street who lives from hand to mouth; everyone said he had a promising future when he was younger but somewhere along the line, his life took a u-turn. I have seen it in the eyes of the woman across the road, I could smell her frustration, no, this was never the life she planned.
But all these realizations hit me harder this year in my workplace. As a sales representative, there are weekly/ monthly targets and if the target is not met, everyone assumes you didn’t put enough effort and they believe that whoever hit the target is more goal-driven and ambitious. And there’s no explanation about it because you go explain but no evidence to back it up.
Everyone wants to see results, no one cares about your effort/ story.
I heard something the other day, “when you’re rich, everyone wants to associate with you to know the source of your wealth but when you are poor, no one wants to know the cause.”
As humans, it’s so easy to point accusing fingers at different factors that can limit you, factors that can stop your growth but if eventually, you don’t succeed in life, you know better than I do that no one will have the time to listen to your excuse.
If life resonates with results, then add more efforts. Let people wonder how you become this big— put in the sleepless nights, the sacrifices. Suffer today for a good tomorrow.
Don’t be the bike man telling all your passengers how you were rich ten years ago but somehow, you aren’t anymore.
Don’t be the bolt driver bonding with your passengers over their course of study but now, the course is actually useless and can do nothing for you—what happened to upgrading?
Don’t be the barrow pusher hissing and telling people how cruel life is.
Don’t be the kiosk trader putting in words to every customer about how you used to have potentials.
Remember, stories get sour in the ear over time. People will only pity you for a while then, the next minute, they will conclude that it’s all your fault.
Take the extra mile.
Start at night.
Start in April.
Start by 11:53
The best time to start is yesterday, the next best time is now. So, stop procrastinating.
Over-stretch yourself.
Be the person people can’t stop talking about because when they define success, your name is written boldly in it.
