After taking last week off we’ve got some exciting announcements to share — welcome back.

Yesterday we launched the Tuva Quality Measures Engine, which automatically computes NCQA-certified HEDIS measures on top of the Tuva data model. This was a big deal, as it’s something we’ve been working on for more than a year now.

There are tons of quality measures engines on the market, so why did we build yet another one? A couple reasons:

• Speed: Most engines require weeks to months of data integration to run them. We built the Tuva engine to run automatically on top of the Tuva data model. So if you’re one of more than 100 organizations already using Tuva you can run the engine in 5 minutes. And even if you’re not yet on Tuva, the engine runs inside your warehouse, where your data already lives, and you can typically set it up in an afternoon.

• Transparency: Most engines are black-box, making it difficult-to-impossible to understand why a given patient is or isn’t included in a certain measure. The Tuva engine is a dbt package, so users have full access to all code and data pipelines. And we’ve specifically architected data tables that make it simple to see exactly why a patient was or was not included in a given measure.

• Cost: Most engines are extremely expensive, often costing $500k/yr or more. We designed the Tuva engine from the beginning to cost 80-90% less.

Last week Illuminate Health launched Predictive Models on the Tuva Marketplace. This package allows you to automatically train and deploy a full library of supervised machine learning models that predict cost, utilization, and outcomes on top of the Tuva data model. It’s delivered as a dbt package — making it completely plug-and-play on top of Tuva (i.e. you don’t need tons of ML orchestration outside the data warehouse).
