GREY 2.0

Some situations should never be considered “grey areas.” For example, padding a budget is clearly dishonest. But imagine a situation where the extra money taken is used to feed a struggling family member. Does the outcome suddenly make the action right? Even when the intention seems compassionate, God’s Word still calls us to honesty and integrity.

The real test of character comes at the point where you have the opportunity to compromise but choose to say no. 1 Corinthians 10 vs 13 reminds us that God will never allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. Every temptation comes with a way of escape, but we must be willing to choose obedience over convenience.

Two tests can help determine whether something falls into a “grey area”:

1. The Edification Test

Will this action build my faith or the faith of others?

Will it strengthen my walk with God, or will it cause me or someone else to stumble spiritually?

2. The Bondage Test

Will this action bring me under its control?

Could it lead to addiction, dependency, or spiritual bondage?

Secular Music

Secular music is simply music created outside religious doctrine. In itself, not all secular music is inherently bad. However, believers must be discerning about the kind of music they consume. Music influences the heart, mind, and atmosphere around us. 2 Kings 3:15 highlights the importance of music that keeps us spiritually aligned and sensitive to God’s presence. As believers, we should avoid music that corrupts the mind or promotes ungodly values.

Tithing and Giving

2 Samuel 24:24 teaches us that true giving is sacrificial, not merely convenient. When giving, we should reflect on who we are giving to. If we say we are giving to God, then we must recognize that He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things. Giving is not about meeting God’s needs but about expressing trust, partnership, and obedience to Him.

Tithing is the practice of giving ten percent of one’s increase to God. To tithe is to trust in God’s covenant and His ability to sustain you. The question is not whether God can provide, but whether He can trust you with resources. Giving reflects the posture of the heart, and generosity positions us to become channels of blessing.

Alcohol

Proverbs 23:29–35 clearly warns about the destructive effects of alcohol and the dangers of drunkenness. In addition, Leviticus 10:9 emphasizes the responsibility of priests to remain sober and spiritually alert. As believers who carry God’s presence, we are called to live with discernment, self-control, and holiness.
