The White House is in damage control this morning after the Daily Beast published Natalie Harp’s “love letters” to Donald Trump in full. Officially, they’re backing the president’s 35-year-old aide and playing it cool. Unofficially, insiders privately admit the administration is partly to blame for the mess.
After all, the extraordinary meltdown over Senator Jon Ossoff invoking Harp’s name during a rally earlier this week turned what could have been a fleeting sideshow into a full-blown story about Harp’s obsession with her 80-year-old boss.
Now, the world knows about their bizarre relationship, not to mention the potential risks of having a previously unvetted staffer operating so closely to Trump and sensitive national security secrets.
But with 74 days until the midterm elections, how much longer will the White House — and First Lady Melania Trump — allow this distraction?
