The TSH Prediction Engine ran 10,000 simulations. J Dawg ran on pure vibes, Sportsradamus instincts, testosterone science, and a detailed analysis of Aaron Rodgers’ body language in family photos. Somebody is going to look very wrong by December.
Football is officially back at The Sports Hangover, which means our favorite annual battle has returned: J Dawg vs. AI. The prediction engine studied every NFL season from 2019 through 2025 and simulated the upcoming year 10,000 times. J Dawg responded with gut instinct, offseason gossip, quarterback psychology, and 15 years of developed grudges against certain franchises.
The model’s division winners are Denver, New England, Baltimore, and Houston, with the Broncos representing the AFC in the Super Bowl. J Dawg has the Chargers, Bills, Ravens, and Jaguars. That puts three of the four divisions in dispute. Baltimore is the only team both sides agree on.
The TSH Prediction Engine loves the Denver Broncos. It gives them a 90% chance to make the playoffs, an 11% chance to reach the Super Bowl, and the highest projection in the AFC West.
There are reasonable arguments against Denver. Bo Nix is coming off a serious ankle injury, and the Broncos went roughly 11-2 in one-score games last season. Records like that tend to regress because close-game success is difficult to repeat year after year.
The argument for Denver is that the roster improved while the rest of the division became even harder to evaluate. The Broncos added Jaylen Waddle, still have one of the conference’s best defenses, and appear to have fewer major weaknesses than their rivals.
J Dawg is not buying the Denver hype. He is picking the Chargers, largely because of Mike McDaniel. This is less of a Justin Herbert bet and more of a bet that McDaniel can finally build an offense around a quarterback with elite physical tools. After years of working around the limitations of Tua Tagovailoa and Ryan Fitzpatrick, McDaniel gets a legitimate chance to prove the “offensive genius” label is real.
This also feels like the Chargers fanbase’s final opportunity to justify all the noise. The excitement surrounding the team has rarely matched the actual results. If McDaniel and Herbert cannot make Los Angeles relevant, the city may officially return to pretending it only has one NFL team.
Kansas City is the most surprising part of the model’s projection. Patrick Mahomes is coming off a torn ACL and may not be fully ready for the opening weeks. Travis Kelce is returning from his wedding and may have enjoyed the offseason a little too much. Andy Reid is approaching 70. The model has the Chiefs finishing third in the division and projects them for just 7.2 wins against a total of 10.5. That makes the Chiefs under the loudest signal on the entire board.
The Raiders sit at the bottom. The model ranks Las Vegas 32nd in the NFL and projects five wins. Kirk Cousins is expected to start while Fernando Mendoza waits, and the organization still looks like it lacks the infrastructure needed to develop a young quarterback. J Dawg’s Sportsradamus prediction is that Mendoza struggles, gets booed, and the honeymoon is over by November.
Model: Broncos. J Dawg: Chargers.
The Patriots enter the season with one of the strangest profiles in football. The model ranks New England fourth in the entire NFL and picks the Patriots to win the AFC East. J Dawg sees a team living in Scandal City.
The Mike Vrabel situation hangs over the organization, and New England added A.J. Brown, one of the league’s most talented receivers and one of its most reliable sources of unnecessary drama. The model believes the roster is good enough to overcome it. J Dawg is fading them everywhere and views the Patriots under 11.5 wins as one of his strongest plays.
Brady and Belichick survived scandals because they were Brady and Belichick. Drake Maye and this coaching staff have not earned that same level of trust.
J Dawg’s pick is Buffalo. The Bills have a new stadium, fresh energy, and Joe Brady taking over the top job. However, J Dawg is already preparing for the most predictable possible outcome: Buffalo wins the division and then loses a playoff game it is supposed to win.
The evidence comes from Josh Allen’s meltdown against Denver, when he committed five turnovers, including four interceptions and a fumble. J Dawg also believes the Bills have a distraction problem. Allen had a baby in April, which means the early part of his offseason probably involved less sleep and more diaper changes than film study. Dion Dawkins, the left tackle protecting his blind side, has apparently been attending WWE events while a young streamer documents his life.
It is difficult to win a Super Bowl on four hours of sleep and a content calendar.
Miami may be the most entertaining bad team in football. Malik Willis, De’Von Achane, and Tyreek Hill give the Dolphins enough speed to create chaos, even if the roster is not good enough to consistently win. They could lose 40-35 every week and become essential viewing in the Octobox.
J Dawg compared his own team to the fun, crazy person you meet at a bar: great for one night, but not someone you build your future around. The model projects Miami for 6.6 wins against a total of 4.5. J Dawg strongly disagrees and thinks the Dolphins finish closer to four or five wins.
The Jets have Geno Smith back in New York, where his career began, and are paying him Aaron Rodgers money. J Dawg believes the Jets will win more games than Miami, while the Dolphins position themselves to win the March for Arch.
Model: Patriots. J Dawg: Bills.
The AFC North had one of the most aggressive offseasons in football. Trey Hendrickson left Cincinnati for Baltimore after the Ravens allowed a possible Maxx Crosby trade to collapse. The Bengals responded by sending the ninth overall pick to the Giants for Dexter Lawrence. Both defenses got significantly better.
Baltimore also made a major coaching change. John Harbaugh is out and Jesse Minter is in. J Dawg believes the new voice will inject life into a roster that had become too comfortable. He has the Ravens over 11.5 wins and considers them the best team in the AFC.
The model is slightly less aggressive, projecting Baltimore for 10.2 wins, but the Ravens also have the second-easiest schedule in football. Both Michael and J Dawg agree on the division order: Ravens, Bengals, Steelers, Browns.
Cincinnati remains the annual tease. Joe Burrow’s career record in September is 9-10-1, while his career record in December is 12-5. The betting strategy is straightforward: fade him early, then back him late.
The Bengals have the third-easiest schedule and a model projection of 8.8 wins. That puts them exactly where they seem to finish every year: close enough to create hope, but usually one game short.
Then there is Michael’s official sleeper pick, the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The case is based on Aaron Rodgers reuniting with his family after roughly 20 years, returning to Mike McCarthy, and playing with DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. Michael believes Rodgers is enlightened and ready for one final run.
The model gives Pittsburgh a 1% chance to win the Super Bowl, a 19% chance to win the division, and a 43% chance to make the playoffs. J Dawg rejected the entire theory after applying the green line test to Rodgers’ family photos. Rodgers had his hands in his pockets in both pictures.
According to J Dawg, enlightened men hug.
Cleveland is much easier to summarize. Deshaun Watson is back, the model ranks the Browns 27th, and there is not much reason to spend more time on them.
Model: Ravens. J Dawg: Ravens.
The model picks the Texans. J Dawg believes Houston’s quarterback may be broken.
The last time we saw C.J. Stroud, he was struggling through a full December yip spiral. He was turning the ball over, missing reads, and at times looked more comfortable completing passes to the Patriots than his own receivers. J Dawg’s prediction is that Stroud gets benched within the first two months of the season.
That sounds aggressive, but Houston’s defense is too good to waste another season on avoidable turnovers. If Stroud starts costing the Texans games, the pressure to make a change could arrive quickly.
J Dawg prefers Jacksonville. It is Year 2 of Liam Coen’s offense, Trevor Lawrence showed real progress, and Jakobi Meyers gives the Jaguars another reliable target. Jacksonville has enough offensive talent to win the division if Lawrence takes another step.
The biggest disappointment is Travis Hunter. The idea of a true two-way NFL player was one of the most interesting stories entering the league. Now it appears Hunter may settle into a more traditional one-way role. After months of imagining football’s version of Shohei Ohtani, he may simply become a very good cornerback.
The Colts get Daniel Jones back from injury, which means Michael’s annual Colts quarterback obsession continues. The warning sign is Jones’ 1-12 career record in primetime. Fortunately, Indianapolis may not appear in enough primetime games for that to become a major issue.
The Titans still have Cam Ward, selected Carnell Tate fourth overall in what felt like a reach, and hired Robert Saleh. Saleh is reportedly wonderful at charity golf tournaments, which is currently one of the most positive Titans scouting notes available.
Model: Texans. J Dawg: Jaguars.
The model’s strongest play is Kansas City under 10.5 wins. It projects the Chiefs at just 7.2 victories, which is a massive gap from the posted total.
The model also likes Miami over 4.5 wins, projecting the Dolphins at 6.6. J Dawg strongly recommends ignoring that one and taking the opposite side.
Baltimore over is another shared lean. The Ravens have a favorable schedule, a new coaching voice, and one of the strongest rosters in the conference.
For Week 1 Survivor, Jacksonville over Cleveland is the early Circa lean. Chargers over Arizona is also in the conversation.
J Dawg’s board includes New England under 11.5 wins, Buffalo over its win total because of the new stadium bump, and Baltimore over 11.5. He also wants bettors to fade Joe Burrow throughout September and back him in December.
The TSH Manifesto adds a few longer-term trends. Burrow is 17-8 against the spread as an underdog and 15-2 when getting three or more points. Lamar Jackson is 24-5 against the spread as a short favorite or underdog and 25-1 on the moneyline against NFC teams.
Those are the numbers worth saving before the season starts.
The prediction engine sees Denver beating New England in the AFC Championship Game, with Baltimore as the strongest alternative.
That would be a rematch of last year’s conference title game, which J Dawg does not believe will happen again. Michael is slowly talking himself into Denver, while J Dawg believes Baltimore is the best team in the conference.
And somewhere in Pittsburgh, Aaron Rodgers is still standing beside his family with both hands firmly inside his pockets.
The NFC preview is coming next. Survivor picks, Circa plays, and weekly model updates will be available in the Sports Hangover app throughout the season.
