Is the Neighbourhood gearing up for a comeback? After several recent sightings at pop up events in Los Angeles, fans are starting to become suspicious. The five-piece alternative rock band has been fairly quiet since their last full length album in 2020, Chip Chrome & the Mono-Tones, but the band seem to be up to new antics, creating buzz for a reunion.
In 2022, it was announced that the band would be on hiatus indefinitely. Lead singer Jesse Rutherford continued to release music as a solo act through 2024, which left some fans doubtful of whether or not we’d be getting new music from the Neighbourhood any time soon.
In 2024, there were some rumblings about the status of the band, with fans on reddit and instagram theorizing a comeback in 2025. Internet sleuths cited new merch as a clue that might hint at a new era for The Neighbourhood. These theories came to fruition in the summer of 2025, with the band announcing on Instagram that they had reunited and were back in the studio together.
What the band is recording remains to be seen, but there is heavy speculation that it is related to the 10th anniversary of the group’s sophomore album Wiped Out!, which was originally released on October 30th, 2015. At local pop-up events in Los Angeles, the band has played several unreleased songs. Fans have already started to guess the titles for the four songs that they’ve heard so far, nicknaming one of them “Jacket” and another “Lovebomb.”
In addition to the new music, fans have also received limited edition, Wiped Out! Era merchandise, including “RIP 2 My Youth” bucket hats and dad caps, tote bags featuring Melrose Trading Post and Los Feliz Flea branding, and a set of four collectible NBHD magnets. This past weekend, the band arrived at their pop up event in East Hollywood in the back of a retro El Camino pickup truck, which could be an easter egg for the upcoming era. Fans lined up for several blocks for a chance to chat with the band and hear some of the new music. The group spent time signing autographs, selling merch and talking with fans, which has piqued excitement for what’s ahead.
While there are no concrete plans for a new album or an upcoming tour, fans of the Neighbourhood have a lot to look forward to with the Wiped Out! anniversary on the horizon. After 5 years without new music, it should be a welcome sign that the band has been back in the studio, and fans should be excited about what the end of 2025 has in store for the Neighbourhood.
