A year and a half after its release, my documentary film The Negro Artist is on a generational run. We’ve executed more than 20 screenings across the United States. We’ve sold thousands of seats in museums, theaters, community centers and libraries.

The film made its Bay Area debut earlier this month at San Francisco Bay University. in Fremont, California. We’re screening the film at Coe College next week. Come by if you’re in the area. I promise an unforgettable event featuring performances from Kelsey Bigelow and the man himself, Caleb “The Negro Artist” Rainey.

In case you missed it, Oscar-winning screenwriter Pamela Wallace’s review of “The Negro Artist”:

“It is profound and powerful and heartbreaking yet inspiring. We have all been made to feel less than. That may be the basis of hate, needing to identify someone we are better than. To not only prevail over this ugliness that is poisoning our country and the world but to live with compassion and kindness and connect with all people is an act of courage and uncommon grace.”

There are many more Iowa screenings to come. Stay tuned and encourage your friends to catch a show!

Students and faculty at San Francisco Bay University gather for a screening of “The Negro Artist.”
