It’s peak Silly Season in newsrooms up and down Great Britain, which might explain why we’ve had another flurry of stories about a man who refuses to wear a skirt.
Not just any man, mind you, but William, Prince of Wales. And not just any old skirt, but a kilt, the iconic plaid wrap beloved of Highland warriors—and an increasing number of Lowlanders and sports fans claiming a distant Caledonian connection.
It’s classic Silly Season fodder: Grown Man Won’t Wear Kilt. And yet, I can’t help but think there’s something more to it than that. Not a full-blown constitutional conundrum exactly, but a pointer for the kind of monarch William wants to become.
