American Hate Premieres Next Week in New Mexico

I write with an exciting update!

AMERICAN HATE - SURVIVORS SPEAK, the documentary featured based on my 2018 book, American Hate: Survivors Speak Out, will have its world premiere on Friday, April 10, at the Las Cruces International Film Festival in New Mexico. It will then screen at George R.R. Martin’s Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe on Sunday, April 12. The Las Cruces Bulletin published a poignant, thoughtful review a few days ago. AMERICAN HATE – SURVIVORS SPEAK is a feature-length documentary that centers survivors, their families and communities. These first-person accounts allow viewers to see, hear and feel what it means to be targeted because of who you are or what you believe. The film moves from the scene of each crime to its long-term consequences: the grief, anguish and haunting memories. The film also spotlights how survivors and their communities are fighting back, through advocacy, organizing, litigation, faith and political action. Here’s the trailer:

This film has been a journey of love and a long time coming. Thank you to the survivors who opened their hearts and shared their stories. Your courage will stay with us always. We hope this film brings additional comfort and resolve, and encourages other survivors to come forward. Thank you as well to the community organizations and advocates who supported along the way.
