The Ranger · Thoughts of Commercial Real Estate

In the modern world, there is so much information that the question is not how to find information but what the best sources for information are.

Therefore, I decided to put together a little cheat sheet of what I think are the best resources on real estate on the web.

Twitter People to Follow:

Twitter Follow List

This is my favorite list of real estate people on Twitter. It is ever-evolving as I find more people to follow.

Websites:

Property Metrics

Great blog on real estate concepts. They have a fantastic article on IRR.

Adventures In CRE

It's a great site that is more focused on modeling concepts. Great starting point for anyone getting into CRE

Wall Street Oasis

Forum centered around investment banking jobs. They also have some information on more corporate real estate positions. Overall, it is a good site to introduce you to the world of high-powered finance jobs.

Investopedia

I am sure at some point everyone reading this has used Investopedia. Great explanations on all business concepts. I use it a lot when researching tax concepts.

News:

Bisnow

My personal favorite real estate news publication. If they have a section for your city, you are in luck. They will highlight the latest deals in your market and allow you to keep a pulse on your local market. It is also free.

The Real Deal

It's better for more national real estate news. It does cost money, though.

Books

Investing in Real Estate Private Equity by Sean Cook

Fantastic short book explaining how Real Estate Private Equity works. Very easy to read and highly recommended.

Real Estate Finance and Investments by Peter Linneman

It is most likely the best textbook on learning soup to nuts and the basics of CRE. Used at U-Penn real estate class. However, it is a long, dense, and expensive textbook.

Every Landlord’s Tax Deduction Guide by Nolo

I always liked this book as a short introduction to real estate tax deductions. It is more information than you would probably need, but I am a big proponent of understanding your tax circumstances.
