I have a fantasy
where we kiss. Years of pining paid off —
far too late.
And as our lips lock and tongues entwine, I bite. My teeth, sharp as a knife, cut through your flesh so easily. You don’t mind. You encourage it, pulling me closer. I bite and gnaw on the skin and muscle, teeth chomping through cartilage like calamari. I devour until there is nothing left of your face, only a perfect skull, glistening with my spit. I roll your head around in my hands. Was this the only way? The only way to get what I wanted? Blood drips down my palms and wrists, the blood of someone I loved. Or someone I envied? I cannot tell the difference now, staring into empty eye sockets that once held the windows to your soul. Did you feel the same way? Did you care?
Did you surrender your fate to me because you knew? Because I am a ticking time bomb, because I was always going to hurt you? Because all I wanted was to rip the flesh from your bones and claim it as my own? Though, if anyone asked, it was unnecessary. I was already much like you. I wipe blood off of your skull. There’s still a brain in there, there’s still hands gently holding me. You’re conscious. You know everything.
Years later you will haunt me in my dreams. I will feel your cold hands on the small of my back. I won’t want it anymore. You will know this, and you will let go.
Leo Josefina, they/them, is a New Mexican writer focused on supernatural stories. They have written for fun their entire life, now moving towards establishing themselves as a writer. They hope for their writing to be cathartic not only to themselves but to readers everywhere.

We don’t have a Stripe account yet, but if you’d like to support our publication, here’s our Ko-Fi alternative! Every little tip goes straight to uplifting queer artists, queer stories, and queer dreams. Thank you for keeping our tiny, loud, glittery corner of the world alive.
