Welcome to Chapter three, Part three. During this chapter we introduce the key things we need to know about plants, what a plant needs and how a plant behaves in order to help us select plants for polycultures and guide implementation and management practices - i.e, how to plant out, fertilize, irrigate, prune, propagate, protect and harvest. You can find the preceding course material over in the Bloom Room here.
In part two, linked here we looked Plant Growth and Plant Reproductive Needs. Part three focusses on Plant Nutritional Needs and the Limits of Plants
Plants need sunlight, gases, water and range of minerals to survive, but they do not require them in equal measures.
Plants have adapted to varying levels of light and it’s important to factor this into your selection process. Too much light can injure or kill a shade tolerant plant and too little light will deform and eventually kill a plant that requires full sun.
