Rachel Lipson | The Point · The Point

The Point is a smart, thoughtful dispatch on elevated travel with points and miles. The Point has been featured in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Condé Nast and more and is a top ~40 bestseller in travel. So glad you’re here!

This summer, one of the two weekly posts here (most weeks) will be from my Postcards series, featuring photos and stories from our season of travels. Thanks for being here and following along!

I’ll be sharing a Rome city edit in the coming weeks but in the meantime, enjoy these snapshots from our trip sans kids this summer. We ended up in Rome for 5 nights (with an extra night tacked on due to my husband getting heatstroke at the Vatican — a cautionary tale!). I had a lot of time to wander the streets, pause to take photos, sit in cafés and enjoy the Eternal City.

Here are my postcards to you ❤️

Buildings that are old and older
with epic interiors
exteriors
and views to remember.
A hotel hallway that feels like you’re in a museum
with cinematic rooms
and a not to miss bar.
Rome’s got Rizz.
When your maps app doesn’t know to avoid the crowds
but even in a city full of tourists you can catch a quiet moment.
Signs with fonts to write home about (and the best speciality groceries)
a flea market to wake up early for
and souvenirs to bring home.
Bridges
archways
goods made by hand
remnants of horrors of the past
and buildings still standing, against all odds.
Views from inside
and outside
Churches with paintings by the greats
galleries to get lost in
and proof that Rome wasn’t built in a day.

If you liked this piece, please ❤️ it and restack it.

Your engagement helps more people see my work.

Thank you sleepaway camp for giving us the opportunity to travel as a couple!
