The Point · The Point

I started The Point in the fall of 2024 when I was featured on the cover of the New York Times business section. I ran to my hotel room, launched this newsletter — a smart, thoughtful dispatch on elevated travel with points and miles — and never looked back!
Today, I am so honored to be on the list of top Substack bestsellers in travel — #40ish among bazillions of Substack writers who cover the beloved topic of travel.

This summer, one of the two weekly posts here (most weeks) will be from my Postcards series, featuring photos and stories from our season of travels. Thanks for being here and following along!

1. New to points? Start here.

The #1 starter card for points travel has an elevated 100,000 point offer for a limited time — with a very low annual fee. This is the card I recommend everyone start with! Read more here.

2. If you already have the premium version:

You should still be eligible for this bonus (they recently changed the rules)!

3. Already have that card?

Fill this out for a tailored recommendation. My DMs and email are always open! I’m happy to help you earn the most points you can with your everyday spending. Sometimes it’s just a small shift. Reach out!

4. Get 1,500 points just by clicking this link and entering your phone number.

This is one of the easiest ways to earn transferable points to use for travel!

Thanks to everyone who uses my links anytime they apply for new cards. It does so much to support my small business and I really appreciate it!

Today we are in Rome (in our hotel room with AC (thankfully)) for an extra day or two because my husband got heatstroke (of all things!) after a torturously hot tour of the Vatican.

A PSA for anyone traveling in this heatwave: take breaks, drink lots of water, bring a fan and don’t go into the hotel steam shower after a hot day out (ask me how I know 😬). Florence, we are ready for you as soon as it’s safe for my husband to travel!

In the meantime, please enjoy these postcards from me to you — from a hot summer trip sans kids to the city of love.

With all the places in the world, I’m always torn between revisiting places we love and visiting new ones. So, when I tell you that I’ve somehow been to Paris five times in the last few years (either as a destination or on a stopover to or from elsewhere) you know that I must love Paris.

I’ve written a three part guide to the city which you can check out here:

Part 1: A love letter to Paris…

Part 2: Where we stayed…

Part 3: All my recommendations…

And now, with our three (very hot) days in Paris in the rearview mirror, here are a few postcards for you 🖤

A view from the taxi window that never gets old
We expected long lines at the Charles de Gaulle airport but there were none! I snapped this while waiting for our ride share pick up. The line for taxis was longer than the line for immigration (neither were long)!
Yes, it’s hot in New York but everywhere you dip into has ice cold air conditioning. It is really hot in Paris with little respite! (Editing to add: but hotter in Rome!)
A perfect sunset view
Late night walks where the city feels quiet
Art shows worth traveling for (Henry Taylor’s first solo show in Europe)
Doorways that feel like a portal to the past
Shops to return to again and again (Sabre Paris, Merci, Boutique Generale, Marius Fabre)
Summer sales week in Paris! (Sezane, Farm Rio, Sessun). What a lucky week to be in Paris.
Churches over 800 years old (Notre Dame)
A late-night big win for France ⚽️
A last minute stroll through Place Vendôme before catching our flight to Rome
Even in a heat wave, Paris is still a good idea 🖤

Au revoir, Paris! Here’s how we stayed at The Park Hyatt Paris (again) without spending $2,000 a night.
