CHRISTMAS IN TWIN PEAKS

I’ve been trying to write the introduction for this gift guide for nearly two days and no matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to find the words to capture how much I love Twin Peaks. January 15th will mark a year since David Lynch died and to say he’s crossed my mind this year would be an understatement. I came home from work the day he died and restarted the show immediately.

The idea for a gift guide occurred shortly after, more than anything as a testament to Lynch’s ability to create a world. I don’t think anyone has informed my tastes as much as David Lynch—even before I knew the name of the show, my Tumblr feed was filled with photos of Audrey Horne, red rooms, cherry pie and Laura Palmer, Homecoming Queen.

Twin Peaks is a show that reminds me what’s strange and special about the human condition. It’s funny and terrifying in equal measure, and it asks us to consider the things we can’t see or explain. It’s a show I never get tired of looking at, that brings me closer to Washington and reminds of the myth of the Pacific Northwest—a place that exists as much in imagination as it does on a map.
