We’re back with another installment of The Pleasure Lists: Pleasures, Curated.

I hope you enjoy reading these as much as I enjoy getting to know members of the Pleasure Lists community and what makes their Pleasures tick.

  1. When my mother sends me photos of the hot pink camellias blooming back at home in Florida - I like when she includes her hand in the photo to show the scale of the bloom.

  2. A long lunch - Pure indulgence. The meals you remember the most, far more than any dinner

  3. New Deal era post office murals - public art on a large scale with beautiful restraint. I like this resource for self research. https://livingnewdeal.org/map/

  4. Vivid silk shantung - feels like color in its truest form. God, has there ever been green before this? Or purple? Or Red? It feels like the colors’ first time ever being a color when you see beautiful silk.

  5. The walk you take on the first morning of vacation - excitement for what’s to come, stretching the legs, and getting the lay of the land

  6. A well wrapped treat - grosgrain or velvet ribbon, a sweet note, just a suggestion of thought.

  7. A danceable DJ set at the club - I’m the friend who always ends every night out with the question “Can we go dancing?” When I finally get my way, I want to be in a full Soul Train style trance all night.

  8. Chartreuse, new leaves - Hello, new friends! We are so excited to have y’all here! Join the party!

  9. Having a drink in a really good, old room - Probably best to order a martini if possible. Something you can slowly sip as you take in the space. Though the likelihood of most of these old, old rooms having the capability to make a drink beyond a gin and tonic is quite high. Go for the room and don’t try to pick apart anything else they might have to offer.

  10. Using small silver cutlery from my collection - little spoons and tiny knives and teeny forks for gherkins and cute spears for olives. They all sit in a little section at the rear of my cutlery drawer, waiting for me.

Pleasure is knowing what you love, discovering something new, taking a moment to appreciate whatever it is in real time.

Each week, a new Pleasure-seeker will document their personal Pleasures and ruminate a bit on what Pleasure means to them. True to The Pleasure Lists style, I keep the list-maker’s je ne sais quoi in as much as I can — only minor editorial changes are made when necessary. I do this intentionally so that the writer’s inner world really comes through. The style of the list says as much about the writer as the list itself.

Pleasure Lists are a summary of what you need, want, or have, or see at a particular moment in time. They are a survey, an overview, a summary of the crucial facts of the state of one aspect of your life. It’s a kind of blueprint that can be a guide to the future.

Mull it over and if you’re moved to, send me a list.
