HOWEVER, every win requires further action to build on the momentum. It’s not enough to read the headlines; we must be actively involved in making more of them. Strong democracies thrive when the people act.

If you are in Minnesota, Texas, DC, or Omaha, these stories directly impact you. Even if you do not call these regions home, the success of one action—Delete DoorDash—requires all of us. Some take a handful of minutes. All of them make a difference.

After Congress overturned a 20-year shield against mining in the wilderness—a threat to the region’s ecosystem and outdoor-recreation economy—Minnesotans began to organize.

Today, Governor Tim Walz issued an executive order to protect them. He stated, “The Boundary Waters is a national treasure and home to some of Minnesota’s most pristine waters and wilderness. This place is deeply personal to me, to Minnesotans, and to people across the country.”

TAKE ACTION
The fight isn’t over. Minnesota lawmakers must enact laws to protect the region. Save the Boundary Waters has a website with action steps and resources. Join their mailing list for more information.

If you are inside or outside of MN, take five minutes to thank Governor Walz. Use their form.

Texas Senate Bill 10 requires the state’s public schools to display the Ten Commandments. In addition, the state-developed elementary curriculum, Bluebonnet Learning, contains Bible stories. Both of these violate our freedom of religion.

TAKE ACTION
Families and teachers in Texas can stand for religious freedom by sending a formal legal notice to their school district. Micro Activism has simplified the process. All it takes is a few minutes, a printer, and a trip to the post office.

Last week, it was revealed that Omaha police were set to roll out 40 pairs of shock gloves in area public schools. The gloves deliver a potent shock when deployed by law enforcement. Further reporting uncovered that the gloves had already been in schools. Last year, they were used twice on students.

After a heated board of education meeting last night, where parents and teachers voiced their concern, Superintendent Matthew Ray wrote a letter to the city requesting the gloves not be used on campus. Omaha Mayor John Ewing announced just hours ago that the city will honor the request.

TAKE ACTION
Three additional school districts in the Omaha-area have yet to ban the gloves. If you are in the Omaha area, flood your school district phone lines and inboxes. Ask you prinicpals whether the gloves will be permitted on their campus.

Westside: Monday, August 24 at 6:00 PM
Millard: Tuesday, September 8 at 6:00 PM
Elkhorn: Monday, September 14 at 6:30 PM

DoorDash is supporting H.R. 9720, a bill that would revoke DC’s ability to regulate local fees. If this bill passes, it would save the company a 20-cent delivery fee. In addition, the company has been silent on the arrests of their employees by ICE—including Joan Sebastian Guerroro.

TAKE ACTION
Delete DoorDash is calling on the company to withdraw their support of HB 9720 and issue a statement condemning the arrests of delivery drivers.
