🏫 The Scottish Government has approved the closure of Eddleston Primary School following the council’s decision. This is the final, formal stage of the closure plan as required by the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010. The school is currently housing the museum and library service during the closure of the Chambers Institution in Peebles. Eddleston Community Council is engaging with groups as it develops a long term plan for the building. The Scottish Government letter instructs SBC to “continue to work with local community groups to consider community asset transfer.”
🛻 New road marking and road layout changes are to be trialled around the Lothianburn junction of the city bypass. These changes will require a full road closure overnight on Sunday 9 to Monday 10 August (from 8pm - 6am) from Fairmilehead junction to Bush Loan Road, including slip roads off the bypass. The changes being installed are:
On the roundabout north of the A720, traffic cones and new road markings to encourage lane discipline for vehicles to the A720 eastbound on-slip, and closure of the circulatory carriageway to prevent ‘sling shot’ manoeuvres (360 degree turns to beat the southbound queue).
On the roundabout south of the A720, a section after the A702 southbound exit will be closed off with traffic cones to prevent improve lane discipline and ‘cutting in’.
New box junction markings will be installed at the entrance to Hillend snowsports centre.
