Goodbye Disney, Hello Bluey

I just spent thirty bucks to buy every episode of Bluey and canceled our Disney+ subscription. Honestly, I’d rather lose Moana than lose the right to free speech.

We’re not what you’d call a “Disney family,” but the movies have been part of our home. We were even planning the kids first trip to Disneyland trip. But what has gone down with Jimmy Kimmel is next level, a dark turn, and down right dangerous.

From a pure comedy perspective I am more of a Colbert guy. Being in his studio audience is one of my most joyous experiences. But wow—the fact that two late night comedians, long the first line of dissent, are being silenced is nothing short of alarming.

I’m not willing to bankroll a brand that trades in magic while quietly tightening the reins on which voices get heard. The kids are fine—Bluey’s heart is bigger than any castle. And that Disneyland trip? Nope. We’ll make our own kind of wonder, minus the mouse ears.

I believe boycotts matter. They’re not just symbolic; they send a signal about the kind of society we want to live in. Our family has sat out certain corps before—Target for a stretch, Amazon for good—and we’ll keep voting with our wallet when a company’s actions don’t match our values.

And if enough of us buy the Bluey episodes outright, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation could make millions. Maybe that windfall funds the next big-hearted animated series.
