Hot off the press: 2 Moon Lists “in situ” prompt booklets.
Focused, analog prompt books with sets of questions for when you need a different quality of focus.
William James wrote that experience is “what I agree to attend to.” These booklets (and Moon Lists writ large) are an exercise in that agreement:
The choice to invest and find value in the parts of life that will never be automated, that resist surface-level summary, that get richer the more deliberately you show up to them.
Printed in small quantities at a local shop. Packaged by hand, and washi-taped into these really satisfyingly crinkly paper envelopes I bought last week in Tokyo (from a store that exclusively sold…tiny bags) and hauled back in my carry-on.
NEW: Prompts for the Morning
The idea for this one started with finding my old dusty deck of Brian Eno’s “Oblique Strategies” cards in a box in my storage unit. I opened it up to this heavy hitter: “Repetition is a Form of Change.”
The booklet is centered around one month of mornings. 32 mornings, same time, same-ish place, same activity; different you each time.1
For the cover, I was reading about this Van Gogh show curated around his use of the color yellow. In 1888, he began a series of sunflower paintings while living in Arles, sun-drunk on the quality of summer light in the south of France. He wrote in a letter to his brother Theo: ‘Sunshine, a light which, for want of a better word I can only call yellow – pale sulphur yellow, pale lemon, gold. How beautiful yellow is!’”2
32 prompts. Softcover, staple-bound A5. Space for writing. Available in limited edition.
Purchase: individually or as a set.
BACK IN STOCK: Prompts for Better Attention
This one sold out really fast last time and I forgot to even save myself a copy. I made a few tweaks and reprinted.
Simone Weil called attention “the rarest and purest form of generosity.”
Attention isn’t something you’re failing at, or a scarce resource being depleted. The brain is always choosing, associating, constructing; our attention is selective by nature. Attention is something you're always giving away, constantly, to something.
These prompts take inventory of what's been receiving it, and invite being a little more deliberate about what gets it next.
32 prompts, in four acts. Softcover, staple-bound A5. Space for writing. Available in limited edition.
Purchase: individually or as a set.
Originally made in collaboration with friends at Canyon Coffee for their Brooklyn opening, but I never printed any myself!
The letter is so sweet, and also made me laugh because I was imagining texting that line to my friends, verbatim, and them responding,…. are you ok?
