Hollywood star Matt Damon was visiting Disneyland when a family's heartwarming first meeting with Goofy was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media

A family savoring a precious moment at Disneyland received an unexpected bonus when they realized a major Hollywood star had been silently observing from mere feet away.

Loryn Powell posted the surprising celebrity encounter on Instagram Friday after capturing what she thought would be a simple family memory - her young daughter's first introduction to Goofy at Goofy's Kitchen at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim. In the footage, Powell's husband kneels next to their daughter as Goofy, sporting his signature chef outfit, comes over to greet them.

The little girl enthusiastically waves at the beloved Disney character before wrapping her arms around him for an embrace. But what the family seemingly didn't notice was the recognizable figure standing directly behind them. It comes after Matt Damon opened up about being "broke."

Matt Damon can be spotted a short distance away, nonchalantly observing the touching scene with his arms crossed and a smile on his face as the child hugs Goofy.

Powell captioned the video writing, "POV you're watching your husband and daughter meet Goofy for the first time but don't realize Matt Damon is also watching your husband and daughter meet Goofy for the first time."

She then joked, "When your daughter is more starstruck by Goofy than Matt Damon." The family had dressed up for the occasion, making their daughter's first Disneyland visit a particularly memorable one.

"As you can tell we love dressing up for a good theme so taking our 2.5 year old daughter to Disneyland for her first time was magical," Powell told The California Post. "Even if Matt Damon hadn't been there," she added.

It didn't take long for eagle-eyed viewers to notice the Hollywood A-lister in the background. While some commenters debated whether it was really Damon, others picked up on what seemed like a telling detail: his cap displayed the logo of Artists Equity, the production company Damon co-founded with his longtime pal Ben Affleck.

Damon was indeed at Disneyland during the same period for his own family celebration. The actor was photographed at the theme park on Thursday alongside his wife, Luciana Barroso, their daughters Alexia, Isabella, Gia, and Stella, plus a group of relatives and friends, marking his daughter Gia's 18th birthday.

Images from the day showed the party sporting coordinating "Birthday Crew" shirts before snapping a photo in front of the enormous Mickey Mouse pumpkin on Main Street, U.S.A.

It remains unclear whether Powell captured her daughter's Goofy moment during that same Disneyland trip, especially since Damon appears to be wearing different attire and headwear in her footage.

The Odyssey star recently spoke candidly about family life, including the bittersweet experience of watching his daughters mature and gain their independence.

While Matt continues to be one of Hollywood's most prominent figures, his daughters are starting to carve out their own spotlight, with Isabella, 20, having recently signed with elite modeling agency IMG Models.
