Jerome Glenn, CEO and Co-Founder of The Millennium Project, recently concluded a productive three-day visit to Tokyo (May 16–18, 2026), marking a key step forward in the ongoing efforts to rebuild and restructure the Japan Millennium Project Node.

The stopover, which took place during Glenn’s return journey from China, provided a vital opportunity to bring together local expertise and lay the groundwork for future collaborative futures research in the region.

To kickstart the revitalization of the Japan Node, Jerome Glenn convened an initial group of 14 forward-thinking futurists from government, academia, NGOs, and the business sector. He did so in close collaboration with Hayato Kobayashi, who has a deep history with the organization as a former intern and long-time collaborator of The Millennium Project.

During the two-hour foundational meeting, Ryuta Minami—a member of the World Futures Studies Federation and journalist for Newsweek Japan (online) and Yahoo News Japan—documented the session. He has written a comprehensive two-part article detailing the discussions, which is currently being reviewed by the participants and is expected to be published in about a week. Moving forward, Hayato Kobayashi and fellow team member Asako are taking charge of setting up the necessary communication channels to organize the internal infrastructure and plan the future program for the evolving Japan Node.

The momentum continued the following evening at a futurist salon organized by Christian Schmitz. The gathering brought together roughly 20 innovators—spanning fields from environmental science to artificial intelligence—for a deep-dive discussion centered primarily on the crucial topic of the future governance for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).

The high level of engagement at the salon suggests that several of these participants may also join the ongoing effort, expanding the core group currently working to build the Japan Node.

The Millennium Project will share further updates as the Japan Node continues its planning phase and coordinates its upcoming initiatives.
