When I started this Substack, I wanted it to be a peak behind the curtain — the things, places, and various other tidbits that inspire me and make up my world. There’s nothing more that I love than going through someone who I admire screenshots, moodboards, and various sources of inspiration.
So, I thought I would share exactly that with you. The three S’s that are inspiring and driving me this week…and what I’m packing for two weeks in Europe with some vintage finds for all of you too.
I hope you enjoy!
X Julia
(P.S. this one is a long one with lots of imagery- so I would open if app if you can!)
I absolutely love seeing what others have in their saved folders. JULIANA SALAZAR used to share these incredible moodboard images on her stories that I simply devoured. Seeing another creative person’s world of inspiration always fascinates me - a peak behind the curtain into their mind, not something we see a lot of today. Someone taking the actual time to share references, think through how they are inspiring their work, and talk through it. Mostly its straight copying and stealing ideas without the part you’re taught in art school- taking the time to sit there with your thoughts, world of inspiration, and how to translate them into something creative. But I digress. Here are some things I have saved this week:
This part is the part I rarely share. A lot of my work is done in private, and shared when I feel ready enough to creatively create content around it. I build my worlds in silence, and my favorite part is sharing those worlds with all of you when they’re ready. Much of my free time is spent sourcing, looking at vintage, what’s being reprised on the contemporary market, which all drives the world of TMD and my personal life. This month, I’m sourcing around a few things: my next drop, a summer wardrobe full of color, a trip to Europe, and Fendi’s (more on that). So, without further ado, sharing my world of sourcing below!
Sourcing: My Closet: I’ve had a craving to add a ton of color into my wardrobe this summer, not something I typically do in the form of print and bright tones. Enjoy the following packing diary for my upcoming trip to London + Italy. My standout pieces include:
This zebra Sezane button down (best button downs in the game) that reminds me of Tom Ford Gucci
This knit Sezane dress I will also be purchasing for my mom and that’s cotton lined. I plan on wearing as a beach cover and walking around the city with little sneakers.
These Row heels that just came out, they are the perfect shade of red to me and SO comfortable.
These Herbert Levine heels I received MANY questions on.
My red and black Row 90’s bags. Truly the only bags you need and the easiest to travel with.
And of course, the eBay find of the year: The D&G skirt version of Carrie’s famous dress that she wears in the episode where she falls on the runway.
Sourcing: My next drop
You heard it here first- my next drop will be ALL bags! For the first time ever, I am focusing on just bags and am SO excited about not only the pieces included, but also the creative identity around the drop. I was super inspired by the ‘90’s images of runway models at the airport getting on and off of flights, so I decided to pick a few of my absolute favorite modern day ‘90’s girls to shoot - more to come here hehe. Sharing a few pieces included and the moodboard! SO excited to share this one with all of you once it’s live.
