The world is burning, life is stressful, everything is too expensive. But at least there are cat videos! Oscilloscope Laboratories is back with the 8th Annual CatVideoFest, highlighting some of the best cat videos money can buy. If you need any more of an excuse to go, each ticket goes to support local animal shelters! The PMA is supporting the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, the Strand is supporting the Pope Memorial Humane Society, the Colonial is supporting the Waldo County Humane Society, and The Gem is supporting a humane society to be named at a later date. Go help the animals by watching some stupid cat videos!

Sure, they’re only Girl Scouts, but their business can be cut throat! This is where Cookie Queens comes in, following 4 Girl Scouts working to sell the most cookies during a season that generated $800 million in sales. It was shown up at MIFF just a few weeks ago and was really well loved, so it’s nice that it’s getting a small release down here so more can check it out. Bring a Girl Scout, or even a former Girl Scout, and they’ll find a bunch they can relate to.

While it received some mixed reviews after its premier at Cannes earlier this year, the beauty and heart at the core of Sheep in the Box has really shone through. Could it have gone a little deeper with its commentary of AI? Sure, but that’s not really the story it wants to tell; it’s more of a story on grief, acceptance, and living outside of the expectations set by your family. It’s not a perfect film, but it is one that will make you contemplate your own existence and whether or not you are living your life to the fullest without stifling someone else’s ambition.
We’ve been grinding away getting out all of our MIFF and MOFF interviews for you! The first was our interview with Katie Aselton and Mary Bud, which was such a fun time. We then put out our interviews with Ricky Leighton (of Downeast Hardcore, which is playing at Geno’s on August 8th at 7pm) and Matty Wishnow (of The Last Critic) on an episode of the Podweek! Check ‘em out, they’re great, but we’ve got more coming out very soon!
