2026 FIFA Men's World Cup Coffees

It’s hard to contain all the excitement.

We are about a year away from the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brasil. This is the pinnacle of football, one of the greatest celebrations of humanity, and a truly global sceptical.

While I’ll never really get bored of rewatching all the games from the incredibly successful 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, I guess it might be nice to whet my appetite by watching the boys have their fun too.

We’re a week into the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, being hosted by Canada, USA, and Mexico. And despite the weirdness of hosting the event in that part of the world, it makes it really easy for us in Aotearoa to watch!

It’s been a big week for football and coffee. Here are my highlights.

On paper, a 2-all draw doesn’t really reflect the quality of this game.

I am the first to admit that I didn’t have high hopes going into this Men’s World Cup, especially after our warm up game against Haiti.

But all is forgiven.

We played an exciting brand of attacking football, which didn’t just rely on smashing it up to Chris Wood, hoping he’d do something.

Amazing stuff. Egypt is next. Roll on Monday.

Hydration breaks are a bone of contention at this World Cup. Originally brought in at the referee’s discretion to ensure player safety in high temperatures, they appear to be mandated in every game, regardless of the temperature.

They’re a momentum killer. They’re a chance for the team on the back foot to regroup and take back control. We saw this in the New Zealand vs Iran game, and the Japan vs Netherlands game, amongst others.

We know they’re here so FIFA can sell advertising. They’re a crock of shite. Awful for players and us watching a home.

Almost every game so far has been a good watch.

• Mexico v South Africa - chaos, goals, red cards.

• Australia vs Türkiye - drama and excitement.

• Germany vs Curacao - goals on goals on goals.

• Netherlands vs Japan - the best second half of the tournament.

• Spain vs Cabo Verde - biggest upset so far.

• Belgium vs Egypt - the All Whites are in trouble.

• Argentina vs Algeria - Messi’s first World Cup hattrick. The GOAT debate is over.

• England vs Croatia - critics silenced, Kane is brilliant.

I’m fizzing for next week.

Thanks to geography, this World Cup is ideal for coffee lovers. For almost every game, a coffee has been close at hand.
