Outside the ticketed venues, MATI’s Free Community Block Party is a two-night celebration of hip hop, Latin, folk-rock, and jazz musicians and a danceable deluge of Roller Rink, Hip Hop and Club DJ’s... plus art, theater, fashion, poetry, and kids events.
Bring your “crazy legs” and rollerskate down Washington Street with Documentarian and DJ Gee Wiz on July 17th and 18th. Wiz’s film, “The Rink ‘It’s a Way of Life’”, captured the rich history of St. Louis and East St. Louis skate culture, and he’s curated a host of legendary rink DJ’s -- DJ Tone, Dr. Philgood, DJ Sha’vierre, DJ Lady Jock, DJ Bounce, Soopaman DJ Speed, DJ Soundz, DJ Nasty Nino, and DJ Kut – to keep you rolling.
National DJ’s Spinderella and Natasha Diggs headline the Theresa stage on Friday. Spinderella pushed Salt n’ Pepa “real good” and brings a party full of hiphop and funk. Natasha Diggs sets a groovable mood and is known as the 45 Queen when she spins vinyl. Diggs is a featured remix artist for acts like Khruangbin and Blaze. Then, Saturday, it’s a St. Louis circus disco rave event as Nightchaser presents Le Freque Cirque with House of Tucci, Icesis Couture, Jojo, and Mark Lewis.
St. Louis bands open the Theresa Stage from 5-7:30 both nights. Friday, the Kendrick Smith Quartet opens the night. Hailing from East St. Louis, Kendrick is a saxophone storyteller whose classic jazz quartet echoes the greats of the 50’s and 60’s.
Paint Louis then presents R.O.T.N., a hip hop super group of Daemon, Rec Riddles, and Supreme Sol. Daemon’s recent releases “Euphonic” and his Trackstar the DJ collab “KillJoy” dominated my ears this year. When paired with Rec Riddles’s devastating NJxSTL lyrical intensity and Supreme Sol’s frantic, rapid fire flow, the R.O.T.N. collective triples each individual’s live energy.
The Pernikoff Brothers take a break from opening for the Gin Blossoms to get Saturday going. Their quiet Americana sound swirls with earnest passion and bittersweet harmonies. They are followed by Manos PanAmerica, a danceable 7 member Latin Fusion band, who mix Latin American instruments and rhythms to bridge the culture gap between the Americas.
The rest of the Block Party includes GENT’s Fashion show, Circus Harmony, Poetry in Motion, Frizzy By Nature’s artisan and food market, Art curated by Kris Blackmon, and the musical, “Betsey Brown.”

Reggae music is truly one of the musical foundations of community radio around the world, and in St. Louis of course. CRSTL.FM is proud to present the long-running shows Ital Rhythms on Friday nights 7-9PM Central and Positive Vibrations every Saturday 9-11PM. This past march we added another reggae program to our schedule: Reggae Song’bration with new host Isis Ain - The Lioness I.

Tell us about your relationship to radio and to music. When did that start?
Radio and Music has been a big part of my life since I was a child. My Father with his brothers and sisters played bass guitar/electric guitar/keyboards/drums and were amazing singers. My Mother and aunts would make up dances, and it was very much like watching a live show at home. My Mother worked at Famous Barr downtown on the 6th floor in the Record Store/Department, and when that department closed she moved to Electronics. We had all the latest (at that time, now classic) albums, 8-tracks, & cassettes of all music genres and soundtracks. My Maternal Grandmother & Great Grandparents loved Jazz and Classical music, so WSIE and 99.1 Classics were music staples in their cars & homes. As a teen, KHTR and Majic 108 FM were my go to radio stations. So I developed an ear for all types of music. In my high school years is when I first heard of KDHX. A DJ was playing Depeche Mode and The Smiths, and not just their popular songs but songs the other stations were not playing. Over the years I became familiar with the concept of community radio, became a full time listener, and a supporting member.
What inspired you to apply for a show on CRSTL.FM?
I always wanted to be a DJ, but was a pure workaholic who enjoyed the awesome community DJs that provided the soundtrack to my nights and days. I called and talked to the DJ’s on the phone during their shows, emailed and left messages on the old stations message board, chatted with them on social media during their live broadcast, danced with them at concerts, and attended their live DJ spins. When listening to my favorite DJ’s on the radio was no longer an option, I created playlists on streaming apps based on music I heard on their shows. I remained in communications with Ital-K, Glenda Volk, Prof. Skank, DJ Michael Kuelker, DJ Ranx and a few other DJ’s on social media, and followed along with LOVE of KDHX.
During the past few years the St. Louis radio community and Reggae community were saddened by the transitionings of DJ Michael Kuelker in 2023, DJ Ranx in 2025, and Mr. Roots this past March of 2026. These three men were unique Reggae voices with distinct styles that are truly missed. Once it was announced that CRSTL.FM was launching, I immediately contacted Ital K and asked him how do I get involved as a DJ. I am inspired to continue the sound of Reggae in the St. Louis broadcasting area.
How does your relationship to Community Radio St. Louis and community broadcasting relate to anything else in your life?
I enjoy the platform that Community Radio St. Louis offers to its members, supporters, local business, local artist, volunteers, partners, and DJs. The dedication that goes into successfully bringing a media source to a diverse community that wants it is nothing to shake a stick at. As a first time DJ I enjoy sharing music through broadcasting, being resourceful at events, and introducing CRSTL.FM to potential new listeners.
Tell us about your show Reggae Song’bration. What’s the concept? What artists and genres do you play?
Reggae Song’bration is a celebration of different reggae styles from around the world with a focus on Conscious Roots and Roots friendly reggae. I feature Lovers Rock, Rub A Dub, Dub, Ragga, and a bit of Dancehall. My playlist is curated to build a narrative around a theme that I carry throughout the show. You will hear new tunes and classics from Midnite, Akae Beka, Jah9, Bunny Wailer, Burning Spear, Reemah, Buju Banton, Proteje, Lila Ike, Bob Marley, and more.
What are the top things community radio contributes to you?
Community Radio contributes to me the opportunity to learn & enjoy something new, be social, share my kindness, and share good music to the community.
When you’re not broadcasting with CRSTL.FM, what are your favorite things to do in St. Louis (or anywhere else)?
When not broadcasting with CRSTL.FM, I enjoy listening to and finding new music, reading or listening to audio books (Enoch, Emerald Tablets, etc.).
Do you have any favorite CRSTL.FM programs or DJs? Any other streaming radio stations / programs you enjoy listening to?
I enjoy all the DJs and shows, and listen to whatever is on when I have the opportunity. I have gotten back into the groove of listening to Ital-K live on Friday nights & Positive Vibrations (Prof. Skank & Matty Dread) live on Saturday nights. Juxtaposition (Rob Levy) is also one of my all time faves that I have gotten reacquainted with live on a weekly basis. Herencia Latina (Lydia), Latin Hemisphere (Carlos), The Bridge (DJ Whiz), Beyon’Cray (Crim), and Dangerous Curves (Sherri Danger) are my new work faves. I really enjoy interacting with everyone in the chat.
I still enjoy WSIE - The Sound 88.7 for jazz with my Grandmother.

July 16-July 19 MATI. Music at the Intersection, now known as MATI, takes place in July this year in the Grand Center Arts District. A hundred performers across 15 stages.
