In this newsletter I want to talk about transaction fees and our upcoming fundraiser. But first, I want to share my appreciation for the staff at The Living Well from Amber and Jess who run our youth programming to Nikki and Kim who provide community care in the office to Georgann who ensures our bills are paid - The Well’s mission could not succeed without you all!

One of the things we do at The Well after a fundraising campaign is take a look at the things that worked and didn’t work as we strive to ensure your donated dollars are doing the most for our community. The Well has had an option to donate online through PayPal for many years. As with nearly all online platforms, there is a transaction fee associated with any dollars donated. For PayPal donations the fee is 1.99% + $0.49 per donation. When sending a donation through PayPal there is an option for the donor to cover this fee or pass this cost along to the organization. When a donor pledges $50 to The Well, either the donor pays an additional $1.49 or The Well pays $1.49 and receives $48.51 as the total donated amount. This means your donation dollars are not going as far as we want and, especially in today’s world, every dollar counts.

Unfortunately, we can’t change the transaction fees for online donations and we realize this is a pain point for donors. So what are we doing?

We’re looking at alternative options for online donations with lower transaction fees but are running up against industry standards.
We continue to accept cash and checks, which do not involve any transaction fees.

We appreciate your patience as we work to ensure all your dollars are going towards our community.

For our upcoming fundraiser, I’m excited to say we are holding a Feast and Flourish event on June 13th! This event, catered by Dean Lane Food and Farmstead and hosted by Climbing Bines, will raise funds for our youth programming. These programs are one of two pillars in our community work. We hope you’ll join us for dinner, dessert, and an auction to celebrate The Well and our youth programs!
