Is there any better feeling than when you feel like you actually have your life together?
I feel like I’m constantly on the hunt for that feeling.
But I’m starting to realize maybe it’s more mundane than I think.
Maybe having my life together doesn’t have to mean a huge salary or super nice clothes. Maybe it can look like a tidy home, clean sheets, and knowing what my week will look like.
This got me thinking about all the little things in my life that actually give me that “put together” feeling.
We’re not as far from having our lives together as we sometimes think. And as a reminder, I want to share with you the simple things in life that reliably make me think: okay, I might actually have my life together.
clean sheets, an empty kitchen sink, cleared countertops, a clean bathroom, fresh towels, a recently fluffed couch, being caught up on laundry, a sparkling and fully stocked fridge
Basically, I only feel put together when my house is totally clean.
I’m sort of joking, but truly, when I’m consistently taking care of my space and keeping things clean how I like them, I genuinely feel so put together.
A clean space gives me the peace of mind I need to take care of all the other areas of my life.
plan the week ahead
know upcoming appointments/meetings
respond immediately to texts/calls/emails/invitations
schedule things I’ve been putting off
know what needs to happen that week and each day
have birthdays/events/trips written down
I’ve tried before to be the person that just flies by the seat of their pants but the truth is I’m so much happier when I take the time to plan things out.
Nothing feels more chaotic to me than trying to keep all the important things in my head. I feel so much more put together when I can see all the important stuff right in front of me, and can actually plan my days and weeks.
If you want a deeper look at how I handle a few of these items specifically, check out last week’s subscriber post.
returning things on time
paying bills / tackling debt
tracking my spending
scheduling important appointments
putting away mail (and filing away the important stuff)
making the phone call I’ve been avoiding
dealing with things before they become urgent
While these things suck, there’s truly nothing better than feeling like you have your ducks in a row. When I don’t do these important things, they literally hang over my head and give me so much anxiety. Taking care of these things is another way of taking care of myself, and one of the fastest ways for me to feel like I have my life together.
Sometimes “having it together” doesn’t require a complete life overhaul. It just requires knowing what to tackle first.
I’ve simplified all of these little things into a reset I can use whenever I feel like I’m falling behind — a simple sequence for getting my home, my head, and my next day back in order.
