I ran across this IG slide a few days ago from the highly successful writing coach Lauren Kay. As you’ll see, one of the keys to her landing a book deal was the website she completed prior to being published.
This echos the advice I’ve repeated over and over to you all—have a website. Every agent or editor I’ve talked with has shared that it’s an important part of an author looking professional and like they are willing to put in the work it takes to be an author. And don’t think you’re off the hook for self-publishing. A website, even a simple one, is a way to build trust and credibility with your audience.
But as someone with several businesses, I also know what a pain and headache it can be to build and manage a personal website. And if you’re a writer with a real life—kids, work, church, deadlines, laundry, dishes, and a brain with 400 tabs open—you do not need one more giant technical project.
You need a website. But you need it to be simple.
It’s a place where agents, editors, schools, podcast hosts, event organizers, readers, and future readers can quickly understand:
who you are
what you write
what books you have
how to work with you
how to follow you
how to contact you
After coaching hundreds of clients, I know this is what 99% of writers need.
Not a billion options. Not the most dazzling, complex website on the internet.
But something clean, beautiful, simple, straightforward AND EASY to create.
Upload 4 photos
Add your short bio and basic author info
Paste in your ISBN to pull in all your published books (so easy!) or fill out what you’re writing about if you’re not
Answer a few simple prompts for things like your homepage headline, email signup, and whether you want information for books, speaking, or school visits
After you input everything, the tool builds you a clean, professional author website with the info you actually need.
It’s fast, simple, and easy. And I promise, it’ll turn out beautiful and profesh.
you know you need an author website but keep putting it off
you are not published yet and don’t know what to put on it
you are published and your current site is held together with hope and an outdated headshot
you want to look credible online without spending a fortune
you would like to solve this problem and move on with your life
In other words: this is for writers and authors.
If that sounds like exactly the thing you’ve been needing, come on over and check it out.
Get your site live in 20 minutes!
Because your author website shouldn’t be a burden.
It just needs to exist.
LET’S GO.
Writing (and building websites!) together,
Laura
