There are moments when we all wonder: Who am I, really?

Not what do I do.
Not what have I accomplished.
Not what do other people think of me.

And the world is more than willing to answer that question for us.

It will define us by our success, our failure, our appearance, our influence, our relationships, our past—even by what we produce.

But if we look to the world to tell us who we are, our identity will constantly shift with whatever is happening around us.

There is only one true place to discover who we are: the One who created us.

So instead of asking the world to define us, we must turn to the Lord and ask: Who do you say I am?

Peter answers that question with some incredibly powerful words:

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
—1 Peter 2:9

A chosen people.

A royal priesthood.

A holy nation.

His.

And then Peter tells us why.

“That you may declare the praises of Him…”

In other words, your identity comes with an assignment.

God didn’t call you out of darkness simply so you could enjoy the light; He called you into the light so your life could point other people toward it.

That’s what I love about this passage.

We are both chosen and called.

Chosen by God.

Called for His purposes.

Set apart—not so we can feel more important than anyone else, but so our lives can make Him known.

Your story can declare His goodness. Your work can declare His goodness. The way you love people can declare His goodness. The way you walk through difficulty can declare His goodness. The way you forgive, serve, lead, create, parent, build, give, and live can all become a declaration: Look what God has done.

You don’t need a platform to have a calling.

You don’t need a title to have purpose.

You don’t need everyone to recognize what God has placed inside you.

You simply need to remember whose you are and live from there.

You have been called out of darkness.

You belong to Him.

And now you get to carry His wonderful light wherever He sends you.

It’s time to Arise & Align.
