Hello The Jewish Table Readers,

I’m coming to you with some short but sweet goodness today because…drum roll please…tomorrow I’m launching the book tour for The Dessert Table: 100 Joyful Jewish Sweets!

For the past several months, I’ve been hard at work scheming in collaboration with the folks at W.W. Norton and many wonderful people and organizations around the country to bring book signings, baking demos, hands-on dessert classes, sweets-focused talks, and even a Jewishly-inspired soda parlor party to you all. It takes a lot of work and coordination (and emails—wow, so many emails) to plan a book tour. But the payoff is sweet: getting to meet all of you!

Keep an eye on your email tomorrow morning for all of the cities I’m planning to visit this fall. In the meantime, here are...

It is hard to improve upon a perfectly ripe summer tomato. All you really need in order to indulge in August bliss are a few generous slices of tomato sprinkled with salt, pepper, and (optionally) some chopped fresh herbs, and drizzled with a little olive oil. 3 minutes, done. Perfection.

But if you’re feeling in the mood to take your summer tomato game to the next level, here are six excellent tomato-centric recipes from The Jewish Table archive. Go forth and make the most of the season!

Tomato Sandwich with Dill Pickle Mayo

An Ashkenazi makeover of the classic tomato sandwich. Plump, drippy slices of tomato pressed between pan-toasted sourdough and slathered with pickle and dill-enhanced mayo.

Roasted Tomato Halves (Pomodori a Mezzo)

A Roman Jewish summertime classic from Portico. Halved tomatoes drizzled with olive oil and roasted until they are caramelized and lusciously soft.

Late Summer Veggie Melt

Roasted red pepper, zucchini, and mushrooms paired with sliced cheese and fresh tomatoes. Think: a vegetarian riff on a tuna melt, inspired by the menu at Beauty’s in Montreal.

Sheet Pan Matbucha

A a simpler, quicker process for making Moroccan matbucha. Your house will smell sublime as the tomatoes, peppers, and garlic get all charred and toasty in the oven.

Fresh Tomato Juice Bloody Mary

A Jewishly-inspired Bloody Mary—pickles! feta! dill!—that is equally delicious and refreshing as a cocktail (with vodka) or mocktail (without).

Strawberry, Tomato, and Cucumber Chopped Salad

This salad makes a summery plus 1 to any grilled protein (chicken, fish, tofu, halloumi - yes to all!). Scoop it up with pita or tortilla chips, or be the hero of your next potluck picnic.
