We have officially moved out (if you’re not an instagram friend, I’m renovating a grade 2 listed house in Bristol) with all of our bits and pieces, and the transformation is teetering towards a start date. I don’t think I’d totally realised how stressful i was finding the reno planning coupled with a very full on job until my best friends mentioned I’d hysterically cried each time I’d seen them in the last 9 months. Anyway, the clouds have cleared and the feelings of anxiety have shifted to excitement.
To not leave you hanging, Rise & Fall really do make the best fitted sheet in the world, 1. it is so deep and generous - even for a dramatically tall mattress, 2. it has very grippy sides and 3. the cotton is top quality (better than the most popular bedding shop you’re probably thinking of), cooling and soft and washes very well. I have a 15% discount, use code JODIE15 if you shop. I also use their white duvet set with navy piping.
Hard pivoting to beauty, I don’t know why it took me so long to get lash extensions but now I have a rolling 2 week appointment. Mostly I’m loving not wearing mascara and the black streaks of removing it in the evening. The way I’m making them work/last a little longer (even though I sleep head straight into the pillow) is using this eyemask, using this serum to keep my actual lashes healthy and this lash extension cleanser.
I am very devoted to my regular facewash but this one has turned my head, it’s light and silky, gets every scrap of makeup and sunscreen off, skin is left feel moisturised and supple and is £29 which I think for such a failsafe quality brand is a great price.
Sometimes (.)(.) are great but sometimes I don’t like how they make a shirt hang and fit and this good ol’ M&S minimiser bra works a treat. I bought 2.
We went on a very fun 12 day road trip to Spain and France at the end of June. We had friends staying with us once we got to Costa Blanca so all the wonderful deep chats meant I did a lot less reading than I meant to but I did enjoy this book
Next on the reading list is Jeremy King memoir and this Mike Nichols bio.
On the drive home we stayed at this very sweet and charming small family run hotel in the Loire Valley (the booking.com listing doesn’t do it justice)
My tan is still holding on strong and I think it’s down to this stuff I bought on a whim in a Spanish pharmacy as I forgot my regular one, it smells so good someone stopped me in the street to find out what perfume I was wearing.
On my endless search to sleep well I’m currently taking these (ingredients I very much approve of: Magnesium Citrate, L-Glycine, 5-HTP, L-Theanine, Zinc Citrate, Black Pepper Extract), Magnesium Stearat)
On my 5th bottle of these Omega 3 supplements, one of my daily non negotiables, the benefits are undeniable.
I’ve also been taking Metabolic Fix that combines berberine, chromium and other compounds to claim support for blood sugar balance, steady energy and appetite control. A friend I trust swears by them.
I’m really enjoying following Ali Forbes-George on instagram for her food and cocktail content, she makes everything I want to eat
I’m very sure I’m last person in the UK to know that Davina McCall had a podcast but I’ve particularly enjoyed the below episodes.
If you’re a bit fascinated with the business juggernaut that is ShopMy this is an excellent episode.
New substack alert…..this is a great read, remember Christina Onassis tragic life dramas being in my Nan’s Hello magazine weekly.
Gosh i could write 32 substacks on the fabrics and wallpapers I’ve considered over the last 6 months but in the meantime I thought this was a lovely collection on the wall of our studio.
Also honourable mention to the Beata chintz which is just so fun
And finally in other unsexy purchase adventures if you are moving house or moving a child to uni I can’t recommend these very strong zipped bags which we’ve used 40 of in the last 10 months.
Big love J xx
