A teacher comes, they say, when you are ready. And if you ignore its presence, it will speak to you more loudly. But you have to be quiet to hear.

Braiding Sweetgrass, Robin Wall Kimmerer

Four months ago I told you I was moving upstate. I thought I’d frolic in some waterfalls for the summer, get a job and move back to New York City by Labor Day.

Well, that didn’t happen. My housing situation deteriorated steadily over the summer, even as I started making friends and picking up odd jobs in the community.

Then came the ultimatum: pay $900 in rent starting in September. I didn’t have it. So I packed up my bags, rented a U-Haul and pointed my nose towards Jersey…

How about a Deus Ex Machina? Because that’s what happened. I got an offer to stay on in Brooktondale and do social media for my favorite hangout spot: Brookton’s Market.

The last few weeks have been a blur. I’m couch-surfing, facebook posting, brewing lattes, grilling sandwiches, pouring beers, photographing events and trading in gossip.

All that to say: I don’t have the bandwith to write this newsletter now. So I’m going to put it down for a while.

Don’t worry, if you want some bad journalism from me, you can look to the Ithaca Times. I am working with the folks there to produce something soon.

Thank you for reading, commenting, liking sharing and supporting this newsletter. It truly has been a joy to share it with all of you.

And before I go, please remember these four words:

All flourishing is mutual.
