Laura L. Benn · The Gooseberry Review

It’s similar to being a step ahead of the wind. You can sense a potent force churning behind you, before it comes rushing in and spills into all the empty spaces you didn’t realize you’d been keeping.

An inappreciable charge hovers nearby, like an embrace that won’t quite make contact but still feels electric for those who are fortunate enough to notice.

There’s silence, but nothing is quiet as every facet of your mind springs to life, scrambling to rise up and greet the intoxicating energy.

Any perception of time is enveloped, as if descended upon by a spell. You frantically try to pull as much from it as you can before it snaps closed again and fades into nothing as quickly as it became something.

Inspiration – they always made it out to be a delicate presence that needed gentle coaxing from the shadows. But that’s not the experience. That’s not the exchange.

It is an all-consuming force to be reckoned with; and for a moment, if you can find your way into that connection, you are too.
