Hi! Hello, and welcome to this week’s prompt newsletter!
Here are the top links from our February events and opportunities round-up:
You guys can’t get enough of The Creative Writing Workbook by John Singleton (good news, today’s prompt is borrowed from there). If you’d like your own copy, grab one on the Bloomsbury website
Fun Lovin’ Liminals are open for submissions to their second issue across February. Check out their guidelines on the Fun Lovin’ Liminals website
Read more about the liquidation and closure of Glasgow’s CCA in The Glasgow Bell, their coverage of the announcement and the final days of the CCA is really helpful if you’d like to understand the situation better
Indie horror, Gothic, and dark fiction press, Haunt Publishing, is closing this year. Read more in The Bookseller
Our latest events and opportunities round-up runs until Sunday, March 8, so check out more events happening this week or if you’ve got an event coming up on or after Monday, March 9, use this Google Form to submit your listings
First of all, my apologies for the lack of Chicken Coop events so far in 2026. It’s been a tricky start to the year and some delayed communication has meant getting dates confirmed has taken longer than I anticipated.
I’ve been pretty bummed to miss you all two months in a row, especially after the high of ending 2025 with a spectacular open mic showcasing your writing.
But I’m happy to say things are moving in the right direction and my hope is that we’ll be back at the end of March. I’ll be finalising some stuff over this week and plan to put tickets on sale as soon as possible.
I hope you’ll join us again next month and I’m so excited to get words on paper, and to hatch some egg-citing plans for The Good Egg Project later this year.
This week, we’re going back to my ol’ faithful, The Creative Writing Workbook, for our prompt. You can upgrade to a paid subscription to access the prompt and our archive of prompts.
