There are very few products I recommend after using them once.
Whether it’s skincare, supplements, wearables, or pleasure products, the first experience tells you almost nothing. Novelty has a funny way of making everything feel exciting. The real test comes a few weeks later, once the excitement wears off and you’re no longer consciously “trying” the product.
Do you still reach for it?
Or does it quietly disappear into the back of a drawer?
That’s why, when LELO sent me their newest product- MONA™ Spectra- to try, I made one promise to myself.
I wouldn’t write about it until I’d spent a month using it as part of my normal routine.
Over the next four weeks, I used it exactly as I would if no one had asked me to review it. Some sessions were fifteen minutes before bed. Others happened after particularly stressful workdays when all I wanted was to switch my brain off. And some took place on slow Sunday mornings when I actually had time to enjoy the experience.
It became part of real life- stressful days, quiet weekends, different energy levels, and different points in my cycle.
Because the best products don’t shine under perfect conditions, they earn their place in everyday life.
I’ve reviewed enough pleasure products over the years to know that most launches follow a familiar formula.
Stronger motors.
Quieter motors.
More vibration patterns.
Smarter app connectivity.
Those things matter, of course. But they’re also becoming expected in the premium pleasure category.
MONA™ Spectra stood out because it was trying to do something different. Instead of focusing solely on pleasure, it combined pleasure with a wellness technology I’d been hearing about everywhere: red LED light.
That immediately caught my attention because I’d been seeing red light therapy everywhere else.
Dermatologists have been using it in skincare clinics. Athletes use it as part of recovery routines. Entire wellness clinics have been built around different forms of light therapy. Over the past few years, it has quietly become one of the fastest-growing categories in consumer wellness.
I’d never seen a pleasure product bring together wellness and pleasure quite this explicitly, and I wanted to know whether that translated into a genuinely better experience, or was simply clever marketing.
Whenever a new wellness technology starts appearing everywhere, I have the same rule: ignore the marketing and read the research.
That’s exactly what I did before I even switched MONA™ Spectra on.
Red light therapy- also known as photobiomodulation- uses specific wavelengths of visible red or near-infrared light that researchers believe may influence normal cellular processes. Much of the research focuses on the mitochondria- the tiny structures inside our cells that produce energy. Scientists believe these wavelengths may affect cellular function in ways that support tissue repair, circulation, and cellular signalling.
That’s why red light therapy has attracted attention across dermatology, wound healing, musculoskeletal recovery, and pain management. More recently, researchers have begun exploring whether similar technology could support women’s intimate health.
A handful of small studies have investigated whether red light therapy may support vaginal tissue health, comfort, lubrication, and quality of life in women experiencing changes related to menopause or postpartum recovery. Most of these studies involve relatively small groups of participants, different treatment protocols, and specialised clinical equipment rather than consumer devices. In other words, it’s a promising area of research, but one where larger, longer-term studies are still needed before firm conclusions can be drawn.
Consumer interest often moves faster than scientific evidence, and I didn’t want to fall into that trap. I wasn’t testing MONA™ Spectra to prove whether red light therapy works- that’s far beyond what one person’s experience could answer. My goal was much simpler: to understand what it actually felt like to use a product that combines an emerging wellness technology with something I already enjoyed.
With that in mind, here’s what four weeks with MONA™ Spectra looked like.
The first week was about getting familiar with MONA™ Spectra.
MONA™ Spectra felt surprisingly intuitive from the start. The premium silicone was soft against the skin, the curved shape made positioning feel natural, and despite offering plenty of customisation, the controls never felt overwhelming.
Within a couple of sessions, I wasn’t thinking about the controls anymore, and that’s usually a good sign. The less I’m thinking about the product itself, the easier it is to stay present in the experience.
I also found myself gravitating toward the lower intensity settings initially. Rather than jumping straight to maximum power, I wanted to understand how the different vibration patterns felt. Some evenings I preferred a slower, more gradual build-up; other times I wanted something more direct. Having that range made the experience feel like it could adapt to my mood rather than the other way around.
That flexibility ended up being more valuable than I expected because no two sessions ever felt exactly the same.
As for the integrated red LED light, I deliberately avoided drawing any conclusions after just a few sessions. The research is still emerging, and I wasn’t expecting dramatic changes in a week. I simply used it as intended and let it become part of the routine.
By the second week, MONA™ Spectra no longer felt new. I’d stopped experimenting with every setting and had naturally settled into a routine that felt right for me.
The controls had become second nature, and I was no longer cycling through every vibration mode just to see what it did. I found myself returning to one of the stronger pulsing patterns at around SmoothRise™ Level 12. I generally prefer stronger, more focused stimulation, and that combination consistently gave me the intensity I was looking for without needing to jump straight to the maximum setting.
This was also the week I began to appreciate why LELO included 16 SmoothRise™ intensity levels. They made it easy to fine-tune the experience depending on how I felt. After a stressful day, I often preferred easing into the lower intensities before gradually building up. On quieter evenings, I knew exactly where I wanted to start. SmoothRise™ made those transitions feel seamless instead of abrupt.
One thing I also noticed was that my preferences weren’t fixed. They shifted depending on my energy levels and where I was in my cycle. Having enough flexibility to adapt to those changes turned out to be far more valuable than simply having the strongest vibration.
One design feature that quietly grew on me was the twisted sensorial ribs along the shaft. It’s easy to overlook on a product page, but over multiple sessions, I found they added a subtle layer of texture that made the stimulation feel more dimensional.
By the end of the second week, I knew exactly how I liked to use MONA™ Spectra, and reaching for it had become almost automatic.
By the third week, I stopped paying attention to the product itself and started paying attention to how my overall experience was changing over time.
The first noticeable change was that sessions simply felt more comfortable. I also found myself experiencing more natural lubrication. It wasn’t dramatic, nor was it something I would have noticed after a few uses. It was simply one of those gradual changes that only becomes obvious when you look back over several weeks.
That’s entirely my own experience, and I can’t say whether someone else would notice the same thing. But it was enough to make me go back and look at the research again.
While the evidence is still emerging, several early clinical studies have explored the use of red light and photobiomodulation for vulvovaginal health, particularly in women experiencing symptoms related to menopause and genitourinary syndrome. Some studies have reported improvements in vaginal moisture, comfort, and tissue quality, although larger, longer-term studies are still needed before firm conclusions can be drawn.¹⁻⁴
I don’t see products like MONA™ Spectra as miracle solutions, and I certainly wouldn’t expect dramatic changes after a handful of sessions. What I do find encouraging is that researchers are beginning to explore this area more seriously, particularly in women’s intimate health, where innovation has historically lagged behind.
By this stage, using the integrated red LED light had simply become part of the experience. Because it was built into the device, it never felt like adding another wellness task to my day, I just followed the recommended 15-minute sessions and let consistency do the work.
By the fourth week, I wasn’t thinking about MONA™ Spectra as something I was reviewing anymore. It had simply become part of my routine.
Looking back, the progression felt surprisingly clear. The first week was about learning the product. The second was about finding the settings that suited me best. By the third, I started noticing subtle improvements in comfort. By the fourth, everything simply felt more intuitive.
I found it easier to relax into each session. Perhaps the biggest surprise was how consistently I reached for it. I’d genuinely started looking forward to those fifteen uninterrupted minutes. They became less about the product itself and more about carving out time to reconnect with my body after a busy day.
That shift stayed with me long after each session ended.
One of the reasons I committed to four weeks was that technologies like red light therapy aren’t designed to produce overnight results. My observations are exactly that but they broadly align with the direction of the early research, while also reflecting its limitations. Larger, longer-term studies are still needed before firm conclusions can be drawn.
Perhaps that’s the biggest takeaway from this review.
For years, we’ve treated wellness and pleasure as two separate conversations. One happened in clinics, the other stayed hidden in bedside drawers. After four weeks with MONA™ Spectra, I’m not convinced they need to be separate anymore.
Would I recommend MONA™ Spectra? Yes- but for the right reasons. Not because I think one product will transform anyone’s intimate health overnight. But because it’s thoughtfully designed, genuinely enjoyable to use, and introduces an emerging area of wellness in a way that feels approachable rather than intimidating.
The best products aren’t always the ones that impress you in the first five minutes. They’re the ones that quietly earn a place in your routine. Four weeks later, MONA™ Spectra had earned that place in mine.
After four weeks of using MONA™ Spectra, it was surprisingly easy to identify the features that genuinely mattered.
SmoothRise™ ended up being one of the features I appreciated most.
Instead of jumping abruptly between intensity levels, the transitions felt gradual and controlled. That might sound like a small detail on paper, but in practice, it made it much easier to build anticipation at my own pace rather than constantly stopping to adjust settings.
I’ve realised that I rarely want maximum intensity immediately. More often than not, the slow build is the most enjoyable part of the experience, and SmoothRise™ made that feel incredibly natural.
I’m usually someone who prefers pressing a button rather than opening another app on my phone.
But after experimenting with the app over a few sessions, I started to appreciate the extra control it offered. Being able to customise vibration patterns meant I wasn’t limited to the preset modes if I wanted something slightly different.
When brands advertise dozens of intensity levels, I usually roll my eyes a little.
Do we really need that many?
After a month, I understood exactly why they were there.
Not because I cycled through all sixteen every session, but because my preferences genuinely changed depending on the day.
My stress levels, energy, where I was in my menstrual cycle, and even how much time I had all influenced what felt good.
Having a wider range simply made it easier to match the experience to my mood instead of forcing every session into the same mould.
Some of the features I appreciated most weren’t the ones highlighted on the box.
The silky silicone remained comfortable even during longer sessions.
Being fully waterproof meant I could use it in the bath without worrying about damaging it- a surprisingly relaxing way to unwind after a long day.
And despite everything packed into it, the design never felt overly complicated. It still felt like a pleasure product first, not a piece of technology.
Those details don’t usually make headlines.
But they’re often the reason a product stays in your routine.
This is probably the question I’ve been asked most since mentioning that I was testing MONA™ Spectra.
Did I notice a dramatic difference?
Not in a dramatic, overnight way.
And I don’t think that would be a reasonable expectation after a month.
The science around red light therapy for women’s intimate wellness is promising, but it’s still developing. Most of the existing research has been conducted in clinical settings using treatment protocols that differ from how a consumer device is used at home.
That’s why I don’t think personal experience should ever be confused with scientific evidence.
What I can say is that incorporating the red LED light became part of my routine without adding any extra effort. Rather than viewing it as a separate wellness treatment, it simply became integrated into the overall experience.
Over the course of the month, I did find it easier to relax into each session. The experience felt more intuitive, and I found myself paying less attention to the device and more attention to how my body felt. I also noticed that sessions generally felt more comfortable, with what seemed like an improvement in natural lubrication over time. Whether that was due to the technology, the consistency of the routine, or a combination of both, I can’t say with certainty- but it was something I genuinely noticed after several weeks of use.
I’ll be following the research with genuine interest because I think this is one of the more exciting areas of innovation in intimate wellness.
After a month, I don’t think MONA™ Spectra is trying to appeal to everyone.
From my experience, I think MONA™ Spectra is best suited to people who:
already enjoy internal stimulation and are looking for a premium upgrade rather than your first vibrator;
value products that can be tailored to different moods instead of delivering the same experience every time;
are curious about how wellness technology is beginning to intersect with intimate wellness;
appreciate thoughtful design as much as performance.
If you’re simply looking for the strongest vibration on the market, there are other products that may suit you better. MONA™ Spectra feels like it’s aiming for something different- an experience that’s adaptable, considered, and designed to become part of a longer-term wellness routine.
One thing I’ve become increasingly careful about over the years is separating novelty from recommendation.
I’ve tried products that impressed me during the first week and then quietly disappeared into the back of a drawer.
I’ve also discovered products that didn’t immediately blow me away but gradually became the ones I reached for most often.
MONA™ Spectra falls into the second category.
Not because of one standout feature. Not because of the red LED light alone. And certainly not because it promises to revolutionise intimate wellness.
It doesn’t.
What ultimately won me over was something much simpler.
Four weeks later, I still wanted to keep using it.
For me, that’s probably the strongest endorsement I can give.
More broadly, I hope products like MONA™ Spectra signal where intimate wellness is heading. For decades, pleasure and wellness have existed in separate worlds. Increasingly, those worlds are beginning to overlap- not because pleasure products should make medical promises, but because they can encourage women to become more curious, intentional, and engaged with their own bodies.

And if you do try it, don’t judge it after the first session. Live with it for a few weeks- that’s exactly what I did, and it’s why I could finally write this review. I’d genuinely love to hear what your experience is once you’ve had time to make it part of your routine.
