I’ve been feeling INSANELY overstimulated this summer. We didn’t book too many camps, and we had weeks on end where we had no schedule.
The living room was scattered with toys.
The mudroom looked like there had been a small explosion of shoes and dirty socks.
Working without constant interruptions—what’s that like?
Getting in a walk, workout or simply time alone was a long lost dream.
Before I knew it, I was on the verge of a panic attack.
This was not how I imagined summer to go AT ALL.
I felt like I was being pulled in a million directions and was failing at literally every single thing. And, instead of just continuing to complain (which I’d been doing for several weeks already), I decided it was time to ACTUALLY make some change.
And man, did a few small changes & a really good (yet flexible schedule—the editable version is linked for paid subscribers) make all the difference, and quickly too. I’m writing this on a Wednesday afternoon in silence (yes, my kids are here). My windows are open, I’ve lit my favorite candle and I my nervous system is slowly unwinding from weeks of being completely fried.
Where did I start? Figuring out the problem.
The first thing I did was sit down and write down WHY I was feeling this way. What were the things, tasks or triggers that were making me feel like I was about to explode. I boiled it down to 3 major things, which I’ll get into and how I’m fixing them in just a minute.
I also created a loose schedule, which you’ll find below that’s editable & downloadable (for paid subscribers).
This is the EXACT schedule we’ve been following most days that’s literally changed the vibe in our house and my attitude overnight. We don’t follow it perfectly everyday because, hello, it’s summer, but we’re really thriving with this new routine.
Now onto those triggers…
