Today on the Flowerlogue…Following on from last week’s The Flower Scout Travel Guide, I thought it was time to share the apps and other sources of information we use when travelling. Today’s article in a paid one and all images are taken by me.

The G and I are certainly not travel professionals, but after years of serious travelling in search of flowers, these are the tools we return to time and again. Although apps are incredibly useful, good old-school word of mouth and personal recommendations still beat any digital advice in my experience.

My travel page with my most used apps

Gone are the days when I would buy a Lonely Planet or Footprint guidebook for every country we visited, carefully dog-earing pages of places that were a must-see. While I still love the fun of a printed guidebook tucked into my backpack, today it is much easier (if slightly less romantic) to have a collection of apps at our fingertips that can help us find flowers, choose walking trails, discover restaurants and even select the best seat on the plane.

Of course, these are not the only resources available, and I would love to hear yours as the best travel discoveries often come from sharing knowledge. Below are the areas that we use apps most for and following is the actual apps we use.

The apps we use most are for:

  1. Flower identification

  2. Accommodation

  3. Airline seat selection

  4. Food

  5. Weather and aurora forecasts

  6. Walks and hiking

  7. Touring and trip planning

  8. Navigation and discovering places

  9. Communication

  10. Getting there
