Forgive me, but I don’t want a Dua Lipa summer. No shade, I love the woman. Her life online and offline is an actual moodboard, influencing many many people with where to go on holiday, how to dress, what to eat etc. I am also the biggest fan of Service95 (her book club), and am constantly impressed how she manages to not just read these amazing pieces of literature, but hold engaging conversations with the authors and bring out another understanding of the book entirely.
But a Dua Lipa summer to me sounds exhausting. It sounds like having to pick the trendiest restaurant for lunch and dinner every time. It sounds like only going to the hottest spots for beach clubs and clubs or having to buy the newest clothes all the time. It feels like having to perform to a wider audience, when to me summer was about escaping the daily performance of life.
I write this having just come back from a series of trips, so I am aware how very much in the clouds I still am. But the thing is, even having been on these trips, I am pretty sure it’s not Dua’s world I want. I want the slow one. The one where I am a nonna reading her book under a shaded orchard tree for hours, or the uncle who is sitting on a plastic chair late into the night, watching his friends shout at each other as they play cards.
