Some books are better than others. A subjective statement, for sure, but none the less true. We all have our tomes of destiny on the shelf or in our backpacks. Gifted, found, bought, stolen, or borrowed, these books we return to over and over; timeless and eternal they inform and inspire us with the same vigor and force.
One such volume for me has been A Nietzsche Reader (Penguin 1977). An inexpensive paperback and invaluable travel companion; a fine introduction to the very finest of modern philosophers.
You can usually just pick any page at random, and ”bibliomantically” receive a healthy dose of clarity and wisdom. Divided into sections like ”Philosophy and Philosophers”, ”Morality”, ”Art and Aesthetics”, ”Nihilism” and ”Anti-Nihilism”, ”Will to Power” (and more) this volume was with me all along my years of magical formations. I may be mistaken but I do believe it was given me on my 23rd birthday (1989) by a Norwegian TOPY Eden (Takk, Erick!), and then hit the sweet spot of individuation formation perfectly. And so it goes…
