The ongoing Ebola outbreak in Central Africa had me wanting to better understand the answer to a question I hadn’t really considered beyond surface level curiosity: “how do researchers get anything resembling real-world data in the areas controlled by rebel forces?” How do they get an estimate of mortality when nobody is counting carefully?
