September 3rd: Train to Busan (no zombies tho). Checked into our hotel and relaxed for a while before heading to the theater. We were blown away by the Busan Cinema Center, which boasts the world’s longest cantilever roof (Guinness World Record) and hosts the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF).
September 5th: Opened in Busan! Met Suki, who came all the way from Singapore just to see Rosetta.
September 6th: Performed Rosetta for the second and final time in Busan, rounding out our South Korean run of the show. After the performance, we boogied to the train station to catch our train back to Seoul.
September 8th: Woke up early to watch the VMAs live on Paramount+ because my little brother (Graham Harris) was performing! My brother is a crazy skilled percussionist and was part of the marching band (snare drum) that accompanied Alex Warren, who won Best New Artist.
September 13th: Went to the “Minyo Cello” show; the cellist for Rosetta, Yiwhan (aka Big Violin Player aka BVP) was performing with her band, which included two other cellists, a pianist, a percussionist, and a bass guitarist. It was awesome. Afterwards, Brad & I walked around the Ewha Women’s University neighborhood for a while before Yiwhan came and picked us up and we all went to hang out with Soyeon, our other friend from Rosetta, and her husband. It meant a lot to catch up with them.
September 14th: Kyung Gu, our beloved Rosetta colleague, is the co-founder and choreographer of Goblin Party, a contemporary dance company, and we finally got a chance to see Goblin Party in action at the Seoul Arts Center. The show was called “Here, Not Here” and was a collaboration between Goblin Party and Gamblerz Crew. The performance was dream-like and intoxicating, the movement mesmerizing.
September 15th: Packed up our stuff, went to hotel near Seoul Station
September 16th: Checked out of hotel at noon & went to Seoul Station to have some coffee & munchies & to catch our Airport Express train to Incheon.
Had a 7:30pm flight out of Seoul on Tuesday night and (because of the time difference) landed in Toronto at 8:30ish, STILL on Tuesday night…the never-ending Tuesday night…. landed in Boston by midnight and was home in Dracut before 2am.1
September 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th: Recovered from jet lag and settled in back home
September 23rd: I roasted the season’s first pumpkin and made puree. I made tomato soup with blended butter beans and a lil pumpkin puree, I made cheesy dippers for the soup.
September 24th: We went to the Dracut Cultural Council showcase/information session at the library.
I made pumpkin mac n cheese with yesterday’s puree.
We were supposed to be heading to Japan today….
September 25th: “Theater makes our problems feel solvable” by Hwang Dong-hee came out in The Korea Herald. (We were interviewed for this piece last month during our run of Rosetta at the National Theatre)
September 27th: We went out to dinner with Brad’s parents and enjoyed it so much we forgot to watch the time & got dessert to go so we didn’t miss the curtain for Milford Area Players’ fall production of Clue! (We didn’t, and it was fabulous)
September 28th: We visited the Nashua Farmer’s Market & caught up with our friend Alyssa. We bought locally made soap & berry cobbler & green (and purple and yellow) beans & blueberries & a tomato & dragons breath pepper infused honey.
Later, I made pumpkin bread with the leftover puree from last week.
September 29th: our original departure date…
We are still figuring out how we want to communicate our reasons for withdrawing The Living Theatre from the BeSeTo Festival and for leaving South Korea earlier than originally planned
