November 1st: First archive storage work day since returning from Korea. Filled 8 plastic bins with the contents of cardboard boxes
November 2nd: More archive work - more bins, more cardboard…boxes, folders, categorizing…
November 4th: Filled 8 more bins, got rid of more cardboard.
November 7th: Got my hair cut! Went to Suite 2 Beauty Bar in Dracut, which is Brad’s cousin Jenny’s salon, and finally got my hair cut into a very short bob (which I’d been meaning to do since the summer)
That evening, we got dinner at Street Eats in Nashua, NH - a favorite of our friend Alyssa, who invited us to join her and her friends for dinner and a show: after our eats, we walked to the ActorSingers’ production of The Producers!
November 10th: Town meeting!!
November 11th: Drove into NYC to meet Garrick, his wife Jenny, and our friend Equiano (Know Your Rites tour, co-creator Electric Awakening), at the storage unit in the Lower East Side. We packed all the Living Theatre boxes into our rental car. Our friends Nic and Kate hosted us for the week
November 12th: Met Orion to pack the remainder of the boxes left from Tom’s apartment into the rental car. To think, we got the first round of boxes last December…
November 13th: Saw Bonnie Marranca! Went to meet her in person for the first time after corresponding for a couple months over email about a book project she is working on (which I will not spoil by offering details here!)
November 15th: Drove back to Dracut. Unpacked the car, arranged things in the loft.
November 16th: Did more work in the loft arranging boxes and rearranging boxes and arranging boxes again
Met with Suzanne and Co about Sarajevo MESS Festival
November 17th: Met with Greg from Mass Cultural Council. He encouraged me to apply for the Creative Community Fellows program.
November 18th: Went to Parker Memorial Library. Saw Kaye! Worked on my computer for a while
Met with Hayley Wood and Carolyn Cardella; Carolyn is the performing arts coordinator (and a strings specialist) at Dracut High School and Hayley directs the theatre program. We wanted to meet them and know them and let them know about our plans to do a program for 7th/8th graders in the spring. We had a lovely conversation
November 22nd: Got coffee with Kaye at The Perfect Cup. Backstory exchanges. Lovely time. Rainbow Dracuteers!
The Addams Family Musical, Concord Community Players
November 25th-30th: Holiday week in Oceanside, CA with friends who feel like family.
December 2nd: This was one of the first really snowy days of the year; the flakes falling outside the windows made the house feel like a snow globe and made the perfect backdrop for Debbie and me to transition the decor from autumnal vibes to winter wonderland!
And! Some good news: I was cleared to be a substitute teacher in the Dracut Public Schools!
December 5th First day as a substitute teacher!
December 6th: Gingerbread Competition at Harmony Hall, put on by Dracut Rotary Club. It was a lovely event, Brad and I each bought a sheet of raffle tickets and what do you know? We ended up winning the largest one!
Saw Little Women at Dracut High School. It was directed and adapted by Hayley Wood, who we met last month. The show was great!
December 7th: Went to Historical Society to visit with Kent and Barbara Varnum. Barbara showed me the new clock they recently acquired! The clock is a Solomon Osgood clock and it was made right here in Dracut. (If you want to see the clock and happen to be free on a Sunday between 1-3pm, swing by the Colburn House Museum and ask Barbara about the clock- she will tell you everything you want to know!)
After I got home from the Historical Society, my epic cake making journey began!
December 8th: My 28th birthday! Spent most of the day making my cake. I got it in my head back in September or October that I wanted to make my own birthday cake this year, and that I wanted the making of the the cake to be my main birthday fun activity. I took inspiration from Christina Tosi’s famous Milk Bar cakes for the assembly and took inspiration for the flavors from my favorite ice cream flavor this year: mint Oreo. I made a black cocoa cake reminiscent of the chocolate cookie, made a mint ermine buttercream for the filling, and piled oreo/thin mint crunchies and brittle between the layers. It was exactly what I wanted it to be. And SO much fun to do!
That evening, Brad and I went to the Historical Society’s winter meeting/Christmas Party and “Yankee Swap!”
December 10th: Dracut Community Chorus Winter Concert!!!
