March 4th: Brad and I facilitated a Living Theatre workshop for the Dracut High School cast of The Old Man and the Old Moon (opening April 10th)! It was really meaningful to have been invited to facilitate and such a pleasure to work with and get to know the young people involved in the show; afterwards, I went to Dracut Community Chorus rehearsal.
March 5th: Hosted trivia1
March 6th: Had the first night in a back-to-back-to-back marathon of local theatre viewing! Cinderella Jr at Richardson Middle School in Dracut (where I’m a substitute teacher) was the perfect start to the weekend. Just wonderful and joyful. 50 young people stormed the stage in costumed unison, parents waving at their children from the audience. cue sob track
March 7th: Walked around Western Ave to invite local artists to participate in this summer’s Beaver Brook Farm Market; I volunteered for front-of-house for the first show since joining the Milford Area Players Board of Directors! Directed by our good friend Alyssa O’Meara, Arsenic & Old Lace had us in stitches- the Teddy Roosevelt bit truly never gets old!
March 8th: Completed our back-to-back-to-back weekend of local theatre with a matinee of the World Premiere of Kween at Merrimack Repertory Theatre.2
March 9th: Brad flew to TX for a visit to our archive collections at UT Austin; I went to the Dracut Historical Society meeting (Robin Edward Trudel presenting. Brad spent his evening at “every.Word Poetry Open Mic Night” at The Vortex in Austin.
March 10th: A life in the theatre is filled with reminders that the world is both very wide and very small, and many of these reminders come from meeting friends of friends of friends: Brad’s first meeting in Austin was with Sarah Saltwick from Holden Arts. Brad only met Sarah because he was connected to her by Nambi E. Kelley. Brad only knew Nambi because he was connected to her by Lonnie Carter. And Brad knows Lonnie because Lonnie went to Yale with our beloved late Tom Walker. And so Brad got coffee with Sarah!
March 11th: I got my haircut by Brad’s cousin Jenny at Suite 2 Beauty Bar; I went to the Dracut Cultural Council grantee compliance meeting; went to Dracut Community Chorus rehearsal; Brad met with Eric Colleary at the Ransom Center Library and then went to check out the Lorne Michaels exhibit; met with folks from The Vortex.
March 12th: I had lunch w/Fionna at Frobies! Finally gave her a copy of The Diarist: Dispatch, which she’s pictured in! Meanwhile, in Austin, BB met with folks from Ground Floor Theatre before journeying back home to MA; I hosted trivia and then picked BB up at the airport!
March 16th: Had dinner at Mama’s with Brad.
March 18th: Instead of having rehearsal, the Dracut Community Chorus taped our performance for the upcoming Dracut Telethon (airing on Dracut Access TV on April 7th/8th/9th).
March 19th: I hosted trivia.
March 20th: Brad spoke at a career awareness event put on by MassHire Lowell Career Center at Butler Middle School.
March 23rd: Brad and I went to Dining Around Dracut, an annual fundraiser put on by Dracut Rotary.
March 25th: Brad and I met with Karen Fortier, who directed Cinderella Jr. and who teaches 7th grade ELA at RMS; I also had a Points of Light meeting and went to Dracut Community Chorus rehearsal.
March 26th: I hosted trivia; meanwhile, Brad saw One Flea Spare by Naomi Wallace at UMass Lowell with friends Tom and Marlon. I met them afterwards for dinner at Warp and Weft.
March 29th: My mom came to Dracut! She met Wayne and Debbie, Brad’s parents, and got to see where I’m living now, which was wonderful. After brunching at home, she and I visited the Dracut Historical Society. Followed that with a trip to Shaw Farm ice cream stand and a driving tour of Dracut thru Brad’s eyes.
March 30th: Took my mom to the Boott Cotton Mills Museum; their weave room was one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen at a museum.
March 31st: Chill day with mom at home; ended the day with dinner at SEAR as a farewell to mom (and to March!) after some lovely time together.
DJ Trivia! I host trivia on Thursdays in Tyngsboro, MA.
The play, written by Vichet Chum and directed by Pirronne Yousefzadeh, was commissioned by MRT. Set in Lowell, it follows Soma, a queer Cambodian American teenager, finding her voice and stepping into her legacy when she enters Lowell High School’s spoken word contest. The casting of Lowell native and Merrimack Community College student Pichanny Som as Soma grounded the production, and lent to it the youthful vitality and truthful specificity needed to bring Chum’s text to life. Kween is definitely a contender for my favorite new play of 2026…big shout out and thanks to Calvin Plunkett, who picked up a copy of The Diarist: Dispatch last month and reached out to offer us tickets!
