(Mariblock) - The country’s diamond mining partner, De Beers Group, recently launched a blockchain tracing system, Tracr, to verify if diamonds are ethically sourced.

The president of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi, has endorsed blockchain technology in the diamond production sector. He believes the technology can provide more transparency and traceability in the diamond supply chain.

Masisi, speaking at the Facets conference held in Botswana, said blockchain can help show that diamonds sold have been sourced ethically.

He said that blockchain’s decentralized ledger can help convince consumers that the diamonds they purchase come from morally correct sources.

Ethical diamond mining is a concern because, for years, the diamond mining industry has faced allegations of human rights violations, exploitation and environmental harm.

(bitcoin.com) - A South African crypto investment platform has expressed hopes that an asset recovery proposal will result in users regaining access to funds blocked after its custody partner froze withdrawals. The crypto platform said it has also engaged regulators whom it hopes will help expedite resolution of the matter.

The South African cryptocurrency investment platform Revix has said it is hopeful an asset recovery proposal put forward by its custody partner Haru Invest will ultimately result in users regaining access to blocked funds. However, Sean Sanders, the CEO of Revix, noted that while this may be positive news for users, his company is still unsure of when this process is set to be completed.

As previously reported by Bitcoin.com News in June, Revix began restricting users’ access to a portion (24%) of their funds. At the time, the crypto investment platform argued that the abrupt suspension of withdrawals by its South Korea-based custody partner had necessitated this decision.

(cryptoslate.com) - Most countries are struggling to get their populace to use CBDCs as they do not offer the same level of convenience and benefits as private payment platforms.

The global push for central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) faces a compelling challenge: the necessity of private-sector collaboration to ensure their widespread acceptance, Nikkei Asia reported Oct. 26.

According to the report, CBDCs have emerged as a potential alternative to fiat and other digital currencies to increase financial inclusion and enhance efficiency in the global monetary system.

However, their success appears intricately tied to strategic partnerships with existing private payment systems, a lesson learned from the experiences of China and Cambodia.

Slow adoption

China’s ambitious rollout of the digital yuan garnered considerable attention. However, despite extensive trials across 26 areas in 17 provinces by the end of 2022, the currency’s utility remains constrained.

According to the report, most people choose to convert their digital yuan into traditional currency for everyday transactions due to the lack of integration with retailers and payment systems.
