A conversation about productivity vs creativity

∙ Paid

Those of you who have watched each of these conversations may have noticed a theme. Each of my guests have talked about making stuff. Using our bodies to create. Painting. Knitting. Woodworking. Baking. Writing. Singing. I’ve loved every minute. Thanks for being a part of this, I hope it’s helpful.

My guest is Elizabeth Crane, the author of the memoir This Story Will Change as well as numerous works of fiction, most recently a new collection of short stories That May Not Mean What You Think. Her work has been featured on NPR’s Selected Shorts and adapted for the stage by Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre. Her novel, We Only Know So Much, has been adapted for film. She teaches in the low-residency master’s program at UC Riverside–Palm Desert. She lives in Upstate New York.

Every day I get messages telling me ways I can boost my productivity. I’m not interested in that, but I am interested in boosting the joy index whenever and wherever possible. I Would Die If I Were You; Notes on Art and Truth-Telling by Emily Rapp Black
